MLB Rumors: Latest Buzz Post Trade Deadline
The MLB trade deadline has come and gone, but there is plenty of moving to come as the waiver wire kicks into high gear.
The fire sales and salary dumping will continue from under-performing clubs, and those in the playoff hunt will be looking to add that one extra piece to put them over the top.
Big names are not often moved during the wavier period, but here is some of the latest buzz after the trade deadline.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times highlights that the Cubs are not done unloading talent yet.
"Almost every player will go through waivers at some point this month. Clearing waivers is a two-day process, meaning the Cubs could be back in the trade market before the team gets to Dodger Stadium on Friday to start a three-game series against the only team their players seem to want to play for.
"
The big two that could help contending teams are closer Carlos Marmol and outfielder Alfonso Soriano. Soriano, however, has a no-trade clause in his contract.
The Cubs will have to pick up a portion of their hefty salaries should they be traded later this month, but if they can get some quality young talent, it will be worth it in the long run. If Chicago is offered a good prospect they should consider eating some of the contract. They have to look towards the future.
It will be a long rebuilding process in Chicago.
Cliff Lee placed on waivers.
According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, the Philadelphia Phillies have placed Cliff Lee on waivers.
"Source: Phillies have placed Cliff Lee on waivers. Executives expect him to clear Friday afternoon, be eligible for trade.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) August 2, 2012"
He is expected to clear, due to his high price tag, and be eligible for trade Friday afternoon.
Lee has not been at the top of his game in 2012, but could be a massive addition for a postseason roster. Lee has performed well in the postseason the past few years, and pitching continues to dominate the playoffs.
With the postseason races heating up, a desperate team could be willing to take the gamble. If the Phillies pick up some of his salary, it could be a smart play by a contending team. One can never have enough pitching for the playoffs.
Derek Lowe will move soon.
The Cleveland Indians designated Lowe for assignment and will have a little more than a week to move the veteran.
He has several interested parties.
Three of the teams in the mix are the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs. The first two would be looking for an addition to postseason hopes, but the Cubs are simply seeking bodies to fill the roster.
It would be a sad event if he landed in Chicago. Lowe deserves better than just filling a roster position.
Carl Crawford and Carlos Lee hit waivers.
This according to Ken Rosenthal.
"#Phillies' Cliff Lee indeed on waivers, as reported by @jeffpassan. Also currently on: #Marlins' Carlos Lee, #RedSox's Carl Crawford. MORE
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) August 2, 2012"
The seemingly annual fire sale of the Marlins continues. Carlos Lee was put on waivers by the team.
Also hitting the wire is Carl Crawford. Boston will try to unload his contract before the end of the month.
Both men could be key additions for a team seeking a quality hitter. Crawford has battled injuries this season, but seems to be back on the right track now. Crawford could be a key addition if he returns to form by the end of the season.
Carlos Lee could be the right fit for a team needing a little extra pop if the expectations are not high. He has been playing a little better in Miami, currently hitting .300 as a Marlin.
If the price is right either man would be a valuable addition to a contending teams roster.
Outfielder Josh Willingham placed on waivers
Willingham may not move, but the chances are higher than the overpriced list of superstars that are on the wire right now.
Willingham is only making $7 million per year. A small figured compared to the likes of Cliff Lee, Alfonso Soriano and others.
It is highly unlikely the Twins will just let him go, or that another team will offer what Minnesota is looking for. However, if a team wants to take a shot in the dark and pay the price, a deal could happen. It is a much lower risk at $7 million than the other options out there.
