Roger Federer and 5 Players That Are Favorites to Win Gold Medal
Roger Federer is one of the favorites to win the gold medal, but he isn't the only one.
There are a handful of players that will be fighting for the gold, and it will be the same old names. At Wimbledon, the best players come to shine. It's Federer's best surface, but there are plenty of other players ready to take him down.
No one in the field has an individual gold medal, so it will be an entirely new experience for whoever wins. It's still a long road, and only the best players will shine.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
1 of 5If Jo-Wilfried Tsonga can recover from his historic second-round match, he could make a run at the gold.
He played a 48-game third set, eventually triumphing over Milos Raonic. It was an incredible match to watch, but it will be tough to rebound from.
If Tsonga's fitness holds up, he will have a ton of momentum moving forward.
David Ferrer
2 of 5With Rafael Nadal out of the Olympics, David Ferrer is Spain's best option at a gold medal.
He has cruised through his first two matches, and he has a relatively easy road to the semifinals. Once he's there, anything can happen.
Obviously, he can't take anything for granted, but he certainly should be playing for a medal.
Novak Djokovic
3 of 5Novak Djokovic has lost two straight Grand Slams, but he is still one of the best players in the world.
He won the bronze medal in 2008, and he's more than capable of improving on that. Djoker is still the No. 2 ranked player in the world, and he should be playing for a medal.
He's a great player, and even though he hasn't played well in big matches recently, he has a great track record in important matches. Djokovic will be a serious favorite to win the gold medal.
Andy Murray
4 of 5The homegrown boy is a heavy favorite to win gold.
Even though he always finds a way to lose, the Olympics could change everything for Andy Murray. Great Britain will be completely behind him, and he could rise to the occasion.
Murray is known for falling short in Grand Slams, but the Olympics could be different. National pride, as well as immortality, could be enough to carry Murray to the top of the podium.
Roger Federer
5 of 5Roger Federer is sheer class.
He has won nearly every major tennis event, including a gold medal (in doubles), but not on his own. This is his last chance at Olympic gold, and it is his tournament to lose. Last month, he played an incredible tournament at Wimbledon.
Now he must go after the gold. He has never medaled in singles, but this is the year to do it. Federer is the odds-on favorite, and we'll just have to wait and see if he delivers.
