Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
According to Schefter, the contract is fully guaranteed from 2012-2014. Weeden has more than $900,000 guaranteed in 2015.
Weeden, the former Oklahoma State star, was selected No. 22 overall by the Browns in the 2012 NFL draft, leaving many to question whether Colt McCoy's time as Cleveland's starting quarterback was over.
Weeden may have just gotten out of college, but he's already 28 years old. That suggests that the Browns will kick the tires on him relatively soon.
Weeden passed for more than 4,700 yards and 37 touchdowns to 13 interceptions in the 2011-2012 season for the Cowboys, completing 72.3 percent of his passes. The Cowboys went on to beat Stanford in overtime in the Fiesta Bowl, 41-38, with Weeden throwing for 399 yards and three touchdowns to one interception.
As for McCoy, the Browns' 2010 third-round pick struggled last season, albeit with limited receiving options. He passed for 2,733 yards and 14 touchdowns to 11 interceptions, while completing a little more than 57 percent of his passes.
The Browns have since drafted former Alabama running back Trent Richardson and former Baylor receiver Josh Gordon to pair up with Greg Little.
The Browns averaged 13.6 points last season (third fewest in the NFL) as well as 193.1 passing yards per game. The team completed about 56 percent of its passes with Seneca Wallace as McCoy's backup.
The result was a 4-12 record and a last-place finish in the AFC North.
The Browns are certainly hoping Weeden, along with his fellow rookies, can boost the offense.
