Vegas Summer League 2012: Players to Watch for During Wednesday's Action

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

The 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas is a showcase of amazing young talent and hopeful players, trying their damndest to earn a roster spot come training camp.

This level of competition and the high stakes mean that those who succeed often have a great chance to make an impact this coming season with their respective teams.

Let’s take a look at some players who have been lighting up the summer league, and should continue that trend on Wednesday.

Royce White – Houston Rockets

Many scouts and GMs knew the former Iowa State Cyclone had immense talent, but no one was sure he would be this great.

The 6’8”, 260-pound behemoth came close to a triple-double on Monday night, putting up 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists against the Sacramento Kings.

We will see if he can build on that performance against the Chicago Bulls when they take the court at 6 p.m. ET.

Donatas Motiejunas – Houston Rockets

The Rockets summer league team is stocked with youthful talent, so it’s no surprise that another player makes this list.

Motiejunas was the No. 20 overall pick in the 2011 draft by Houston, which was actually a major drop as many considered him a lottery prospect at the time.

He spent the year over in Europe, but made his NBA debut this summer by dropping 25 points in 25 minutes.

The Lithuanian big man’s favorite quote, according to Jason Friedman of Rockets.com, is “If you’re scared of wolves, don’t go in the woods.”

Motiejunas certainly isn’t afraid of going into those woods.

John Jenkins – Atlanta Hawks

Jenkins was always regarded as one of the best pure shooters in the 2012 draft class, but the No. 23 overall pick by Atlanta has been surprisingly well-rounded this summer.

He’s obviously been knocking his shots down from all over the court, but he’s also dishing dimes and spacing the floor extremely well.

If he can continue this pace, and he will have a chance to do so on Wednesday against the Dallas Mavericks, Hawks fans will soon forget who Joe Johnson was.
