Come To Think of It: Who Is Generally Managing the Chicago Bulls?
I have a question, a simple question really. In fact it's so simple that I can't believe no one can answer it. My question is this:
Who the heck is performing the GM responsibilities for the Chicago Bulls and just what the hell is going on with John Paxson?
Look, us fans are owed a response from either Paxson or Jerry Reinsdorf regarding the various rumors going around, especially with the trade deadline looming.
Depending on what you read, either Paxson's demise is imminent or it may occur following the season. Or it may not occur at all.
Also, depending on what you read, Paxson is either ill, or he's under too much pressure, or he simply doesn't like the job.
There are reports that the Bulls pulled Gar Forman off the road to handle GM duties. But then, local sports radio reports that, while Gar is helping, Pax is still in charge and doing the work.
Huh?
There you go, clear as mud.
There has been mounting criticism of the way John Paxson has performed as GM of the Bulls. His inability or unwillingness to pull the trigger on a big trade seems to bother many Bulls fans.
They still need a low post threat. A star player to compliment Derrick Rose would be nice. Now, I'm not saying that acquiring such a player is easy, but we all know that Pax had a chance to do this on more than one occasion, but he overvalued his core too much. Pau Gasol comes to mind, for example.
Above all, it seems that Vinny Del Negro was a bad choice to coach these Bulls. As you know, he had no previous head coaching experience.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported on its Web site that Paxson would step down. Yet no timeframe was given and the Bulls have officially said nothing, other than the fact that Pax had not resigned.
The Bulls went from 49 wins to 49 losses last year and have a losing record again this season.
Jerry Reinsdorf called the season a "disaster" and seemed to implicate Del Negro as part of his criticism. Yet he is still the coach.
The disgruntled Larry Hughes doesn't even sit on the bench with his team any longer, yet he is still on the roster being paid by the Bulls.
The Bulls situation seems to be quite a mess right now. Since perception is reality, you would think the Bulls marketing guys and media experts would be out there encouraging the Bulls brass to issue some kind of statement.
A John Paxson sighting would be nice. Johnny Jump Shot seems to be in hiding.
Listen, Mr. Reinsdorf is accountable to his stockholders, but I also believe that the fans are owed some level of transparency too. It may not be an entitlement, but it's good practice in my opinion.
Come to think of it, it's us fans that pay part of their salaries, right?
