WWE: Interesting Way to Start CM Punk vs. John Cena III

Leonardo SplinterJun 7, 2018

According to WrestleZone, "WWE is looking at having CM Punk defend the WWE Championship against John Cena at SummerSlam on August 19th."

In response, B/R's Donald Wood wrote,

"

Cena and Punk will save the WWE from the land of mediocrity it’s heading towards.

With fans growing tired of Punk’s face attitude and Cena’s complete lack of direction, allowing the duo to feud again like they did this time last year would be ensuring both men stay fresh.

The company is just going back to what works; let a face, Cena, square off against a heel, Punk, and the world will be happy again.

I agree with what Wood wrote, but how about instead of keeping Cena face and turning CM Punk heel, we keep CM Punk face and turn Cena heel?

Here's an idea:

At Money in the Bank on July 15, let's have John Cena win the WWE Championship Money in the Bank ladder match (formerly known as the Raw Money in the Bank ladder match).

After winning the ladder match, Cena claims that he will cash in his briefcase for a title match at SummerSlam—against whomever is the WWE Champion "after tonight" (Money in the Bank).

Later, let's have CM Punk retain his title in a very hard-fought match against Daniel Bryan.

After CM Punk's victory, Michael Cole announces that Punk will defend his WWE title against John Cena at SummerSlam.

At this moment, let's have Cena cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on an exhausted Punk—even after he claimed he'd wait until SummerSlam.

Regardless of whether Cena's cash-in is successful, a new feud between the two would be born and a match would be set for the second largest pay-per-view of the year—SummerSlam.

If WWE doesn't want Cena to turn heel, that's fine. Just cut out Cena's claim that he'll cash in his briefcase at SummerSlam. That way, Cena could probably still cash in on Punk and not look hypocritical.

What do you think?

If interested, you can read my other idea here—which basically revolves around a CM Punk-led coup d'état of the WWE.
