Now that A-Rod Has Confessed, What's Next?

Michael GlowackyFeb 10, 2009

With the confession of Alex Rodriguez, people now are asking who else? Who is the next to be named? Alex was not the first and will defiantly not be the last. Here are some people who might have taking Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs). Here is a list of three players who might have done them. There are probably many more and maybe these three didn’t do it.

Luis Gonzales was an average big league player the first nine years he was in the league.  He never hit more than 15 home runs in a single season.

Then 1998 came a long when he hit 23 home runs, nothing special. He then hit 26 and 31 home runs over the next two seasons respectively. But, in 2001 he hit for 57 home runs. That didn’t raise any flags then but now that we know that PEDs were being used at that time it does question if he used them to become that good of a hitter.

Over the next two year his numbers went down but, were still higher than what they were for his first nine years. After, that year his numbers dropped once again back to the numbers he was putting up during his fist nine years. This really puts the red flag up because that was the year that they started testing players for PEDs.

David Ortiz began his career in 1997. He really wasn’t a factor then mainly because he didn’t get a lot of at bats. Then 2001 came along when out of no where he hits 18 home runs in only 89 games. His numbers then jumped to 30 home runs a year then to 40 per year.

His huge spike in numbers did happen after they started testing players for PEDs but HGH was not delectable in the test MLB was giving. With stronger testing the last years his numbers did go down. So that causes people to wonder if he too was taking HGH to get an edge.

Albert Pujols is another name that may be linked to the HGH and PEDs. He began his career in 2001 by hitting 37 home runs. Although he has not had a spike in his numbers he is still under question because he started during this Steroid Era.

Pujols has never tested positive on a drug test that we know of yet; but, like A-Rod, he could also be one of those 103 players who tested and we don’t know about. It seems hard to believe that even with the harder test that he could have been doing steroids but by looking at his numbers it raises questions. He has never hit under 30 home runs since joining the big league.

If you think that these players did not take steroids give feedback if you think there are more let me know who and why you think that about them.  For the game of baseball I hope that these players did not take steroids. I also hope that we are getting to the end of the Steroid Era because it is doing no good for America’s pastime.
