MLB Prospects: 5 Red-Hot Hitters at Every Minor League Level

Mike RosenbaumJun 3, 2018

Throughout the minor leagues, there are tons of prospects who are absolutely raking. Furthermore, we're beginning to see some of the more impressive position prospects receive promotions, and there are undoubtedly going to be many more to follow.

So, in anticipation of more prospects making their big league debut later this month and surrounding the All-Star break, here is a look at five red-hot hitters at each minor league level.

Triple-A

1 of 4

Ryan Wheeler, 3B, Arizona Diamondbacks

.368/.406/.568, 30 XBH, 62 RBI, 51 K/19 BB (64 G)

Wheeler has been absolutely on fire over his last 10 games, batting .522 with 24 hits in his last 46 at-bats. He has recorded a multi-hit effort in nine of his last 10 games.

Anthony Rizzo, 1B, Chicago Cubs

.367/.426/.747, 39 XBH (22 HR), 57 RBI, 43 K/20 BB (60 G)

Of his 81 hits this season, 39 have been for extra bases.

Travis d’Arnaud, C, Toronto Blue Jays

.346/.393/621, 35 XBH (15 HR), 46 K/18 BB (57 G)

D'Arnaud has turned his season around—after positing a 1.144 OPS in May, he has a 1.146 OPS in mid-June.

Adam Eaton, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks

.393/.465/.541, 27 XBH (22 2B), 21 SB, 30 K/24 BB (54 G)

Has been an on-base machine since promotion to Triple-A; batting .429 in 56 at-bats against left-handers.

Wil Myers, OF, Kansas City Royals

.321/.390/.698, 18 XBH (10 HR), 30 RBI, 23 K/11 BB (28 G)

Triple-A promotion hasn’t slowed him down; hitting his way into position for a mid-2012 big league debut.

Double-A

2 of 4

Nick Franklin, SS, Seattle Mariners

.325/.396/.510, 25 XBH, 9 SB, 36 K/23 BB (54 G)

Excellent rebound year following an injury-plagued 2011.

Mike Olt, 3B, Texas Rangers

.312/.414/.612, 32 XBH (19 HR), 55 RBI, 69 K/39 BB (62 G)

Has already set career highs in every offensive category.

Oscar Taveras, OF, St. Louis Cardinals

.322/.375/.580, 35 XBH (12 HR), 5 SB, 34 K/19 BB (63 G)

Doesn’t walk much, but he sure can hit; using the whole field more, too.

Jurickson Profar, SS, Texas Rangers

.296/.377/.484, 44 R, 29 XBH, 9 SB, 42 K/33 BB (63)

Profar is an on-base machine; seems like he’s picking up at least a hit per game.

Matt Davidson, 1B/3B, Arizona Diamondbacks

.278/.383/.551, 33 XBH (15 HR), 62 K/34 BB (65 G)

Davidson’s breakout season continues; average is normalizing but power remains.

High-A

3 of 4

George Springer, OF, Houston Astros

.294/.374/.551, 29 XBH (14 HR), 13 SB, 74 K/29 BB (60 G)

Fresh off a two-home-run game; now he needs to cut down on the strikeouts.

Jackie Bradley, OF, Boston Red Sox

.366/.484/.540, 31 XBH, 15 SB, 38 K/51 BB (64 G)

Bradley is looking more and more like a steal by the Red Sox in the 2011 supplemental first round.

Oswaldo Arcia, OF, Minnesota Twins

.309/.376/.517, 26 XBH, 45 K/23 BB (55 G)

Putting together his best minor-league season thus far.

Billy Hamilton, SS, Cincinnati Reds

.321/.407/.443, 57 R, 22 XBH, 74 SB, 50 K/37 BB (64 G)

Is on pace to shatter his 103-stolen-bases mark from last season.

C.J. Cron, 1B, Los Angeles Angels

.304/.348/.488, 26 XBH (10 HR), 55 RBI, 31 K/10 BB (67 G)

Bat has heated up over last month; driving in plenty of runs.

Low-A

4 of 4

Tyler Austin, OF, New York Yankees

.330/.406/.656, 38 XBH (14 HR), 14 SB, 56 K/27 BB (56 G)

At age 20, he may be a bit old for Low-A, but he’s doing exactly what he should be doing: mashing.

Matthew Skole, 3B, Washington Nationals

.294/.442/.541, 26 XBH (14 HR), 68 K/60 BB (64 G)

Everything you look for in a run-producer.

Alen Hanson, 2B, Pittsburgh Pirates

.322/.380/.570, 37 XBH (10 HR), 17 SB, 60 K/25 BB (63 G)

Knew he may have a breakout season, but definitely not this good.

Trevor Story, SS, Colorado Rockies

.281/.377/.534, 31 XBH (10 HR), 5 SB, 50 K/29 BB (58 G)

One of my favorite prospects, Story’s bat is for real and I think he can stick at shortstop.

Jorge Bonifacio, OF, Kansas City Royals

.313/.371/.467, 33 XBH, 46 K/23 BB (64 G)

Not too shabby considering he just turned 19 earlier this month.
