WWE SmackDown: Should Ryback Become a Heel, Face or Stay Tweener?

Leonardo SplinterJun 4, 2018

This past Monday night on Raw, Ryback squashed two jobbers.

So, what else is new?

Well, after pinning the jobbers, Ryback held up three fingers and said, "Feed. Me. Three."

This means Ryback will likely get a future meal consisting of three jabronis instead of two—probably at No Way Out this Sunday.

Aren't you excited?

If you are, that's nice. If you're not, don't worry. Unless WWE has completely lost its mind, Ryback will eventually be fed real food (a feud).

The question remains: when Ryback gets a feud, will he be a heel, face or what he is now—a tweener?

WWE can go in any direction.

If it's true that Mr. McMahon wants to make Ryback the next Goldberg, Ryback will likely become a face or remain a tweener.

If WWE would like to make Ryback the next Brock Lesnar, Ryback will likely become a monster heel.

Personally, I'd like to see Ryback remain a tweener or become an unstoppable heel like Mark Henry (during his 2011 World Heavyweight Championship reign) or Brock Lesnar.

What I don't want to see is Ryback become our friendly neighborhood "Super Face."

Today's faces are boring. You can read a great article by B/R's Maria Cane here explaining why that's the case, but basically, today's faces are one dimensional whereas heels are complex.

In a blog post, writer/actor Nick Leshi wrote (regarding villains),

"

It is often the case that the bad guy is often much more interesting to follow than the do-gooder. When done well, audiences can better relate to the imperfections of the antagonist. It becomes tougher to flesh out a believable hero who avoids temptation, overcomes all the odds in noble fashion, selflessly fights for truth and justice, doing everything that we all wish we ourselves could and should do. The result is often a bland, two-dimensional, unrealistic hero versus a complex, motivated counterpart, whose actions might be despicable, but nevertheless understandable and much more emotionally charged—the kind of stuff that's fascinating to watch.

"

What do you think? Should Ryback become a face or a heel? Or should he stay a tweener? Who should he feud with first?
