Germany vs. Portugal Live Stream: Online Viewing Info for Euro 2012 Match

Mike ChiariJun 9, 2012

In every international soccer tournament there is a group that is deemed "the group of death." In Euro 2012 that is undoubtedly Group B as three top-10 teams in the world in the form of Germany, Portugal and Netherlands will do battle, as well as a feisty Denmark squad.

Germany and Portugal will lock horns on Saturday in what should be one of the most exciting and competitive matches of the group stage. Both sides have elite offensive talent and a knack for putting the ball in the back of the net. This match could very well turn into a shootout, so no soccer fan is going to want to miss it.

Here is all the information you need to know for the Germany vs. Portugal tilt, including where to watch it online and on television.

Where: Arena Lviv in Lviv, Ukraine

When: Saturday, June 9 at 2:45 p.m. ET

Watch: ESPN

Live Stream: ESPN3.com

Betting Line: Germany (+105), Portugal (+285), Draw (+230)

Germany Key Player to Watch: Bastian Schweinsteiger

Germany is so dangerous because it has a number of players who can beat the opposition offensively, but the most important of them may be midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. The Bayern Munich star is one of the best in the world at his position, and even when he isn't actually scoring, he is setting up his teammates with wondrous crosses and setting the pace with his first-rate speed.

There aren't many teams in the world that can deal with Germany's transition offense and that is largely due to Schweinsteiger. He has an attacking mindset and is always looking to get the ball down the field. If Portugal can somehow keep Schweinsteiger in check then they have a great shot in the match, with so many other offensive stars to worry about as well, it will be a tough task.

Portugal Key Player to Watch: Cristiano Ronaldo

Although he is often overshadowed by Lionel Messi in La Liga, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo may have truly been the best player in the league this past season. Ronaldo scored seven times in eight games for Portugal in the Euro 2012 qualifiers and if a win over Germany is i the cards, then Ronaldo will almost certainly have to beat the Germans for at least one goal on Saturday.

Ronaldo's importance is almost immeasurable because even though the Portuguese team has a lot of talent, Ronaldo is the unquestioned star. If one or two players falter for Germany there are still a few others who can pick up the slack. That may not necessarily be true for Portugal, so Ronaldo absolutely must be at his best vs. Germany for Portugal to pull off the upset.

Prediction

Ronaldo and Portugal will put Germany through the paces on the counterattack, but Germany's depth will ultimately be too much as it will escape with a 3-2 victory.
