WWE: Time for Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger to Split?

Luis CamposJun 6, 2012

Dolph Ziggler is without a doubt one of the most underrated superstars on the WWE roster.

His growth as a performer over the past year is visible not only in his in-ring work, but in his ability on the mic. The Dolph Ziggler of today shares none of the downfalls of his original WWE gimmick "Nicky", a member of the Spirit Squad.

Despite his growth, the 31-year-old can't seem to escape the mid-card.

Though some are quick to blame Ziggler's on-screen manager, Vickie Guerrero, as the main cause of his current position on the card, blaming Guerrero for Ziggler's stagnant position undermines her successful management of main event superstars over the years.

Her involvement with the superstar is at most a minor roadblock in Ziggler's career, and while it may be in fact time for Ziggler to leave Guerrero and develop his character on his own, there is another person in Ziggler's entourage that he needs to abandon—Jack Swagger.

The early months of Swagger's and Ziggler's union benefited both wrestlers, but as Ziggler's ability and popularity grew past Swagger's, their partnership began undermining the progress of both superstars.

As a team, both are limited in their role on the WWE's card, and while the WWE creative team fumbles trying to find a storyline for both men, they are forced into tag-team action.

Unfortunately, though both Swagger and Ziggler make a good tag team, neither athlete's assets are best suited for this type of competition. If Swagger and Ziggler continue together, both will be stuck in an already failing tag-team division—and their only hope will be separation.

Imagine this setup: After losing an endless series of tag-team matches, Ziggler turns on Swagger.

The two have a PPV match to determine who gets to keep Vickie's services, and after a great 15 to 20-minute match, Ziggler walks away saying he doesn't need Vickie. The following night on RAW Ziggler defeats Sheamus/CM Punk/John Cena and cements his role as a main event player. Meanwhile, Swagger joins forces with Vickie's newest client—Mason Ryan.

Swagger and Ryan fill the role of heel tag-team partners while Ziggler is allowed to move on to a higher spot on the card. Win-win.
