WWE: 5 'Greatest Rivalries' We Would Rather See Than The Rock vs. John Cena

Gone Baby GoneJun 7, 2018

For those of you who were fans of "Greatest Rivalries: Bret vs. Shawn", you will be happy to hear the WWE will be continuing the franchise.

According to wrestlezone.com:

" WWE has been working on a new DVD for John Cena vs. The Rock, with the title expected to be "Greatest Rivalries." This has been a new idea and collection of DVD's which featured Bret vs. Shawn. The DVD is expected to be called "Once in a Lifetime" which is directly from their build and match from WrestleMania 28. The details of the DVD are still to be determined, but expect all of the build from the previous year, backstage information, exclusive interviews from celebrities, and the topping of the actual match from WrestleMania."

Personally, I am a bit bothered by this choice as the WWE has a huge catalog and could easily have chosen a different feud for the second release. Ultimately, I do get why the WWE felt they needed to capitalize on this feud immediately.

However, to me they could have released this a year or so later and let the "Greatest Rivalries" franchise build up without it's two mega-stars.

So, on the heels of this announcement, I have chosen five other rivalries that should be released before this one.

Keep in mind, you may not agree with my choices or have ones of your own. Either way, feel free to express your opinion in the comments section.

Ric Flair vs. Sting

1 of 5

These two have defined each other's careers.

During the late 80's and early 90's, you couldn't find a better love-hate relationship.

Even though these two worked well as rivals, they also gelled as friends. Several times throughout their careers they were able to put their differences aside for the greater good.

In the end, I think it's safe to say that this feud made Sting a main-eventer and proved that he was ready for the big-time.

Keep in mind, just because Sting is still signed with TNA, doesn't mean the WWE couldn't sign Flair to a Legend's deal just to produce content like this.

Even if we get half of the story, it's still better than none at all.

Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan

2 of 5

Make no bones about it, Warrior and Hogan have a very sordid past.

These two competitors squared off in what was at the time the biggest match in WWE's history.

Through the years, many stories have derived from this match alone.

Not to mention, many insiders feel the Warrior dropped the ball with his WWE title.

As of late, Warrior has been extremely vocal about Hogan's life and career and has even said that he would fight Hogan again if the price was right.

In the end, this DVD would be very compelling and allow the two to hopefully quash this rivalry.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock

3 of 5

it's safe to say, Austin and The Rock were the WWE's hottest commodities during the "Attitude Era".

During this time, both men were at different points in their lives.

Austin was close to a 10-year vet, who was finally hitting his stride after being bounced around by WCW, while The Rock was just getting started and barely had his feet wet.

Even with the age and experience level differences, these two were made to feud with each other.

As they not only, worked well in the ring, but were able to verbally go toe-to-toe without leaving the other speechless.

In the end, their feud was epic and I'm sure both have a great story to tell.

Edge vs. Matt Hardy

4 of 5

Ultimately, these two had a legit beef and luckily for the fans the WWE allowed it to play out on TV.

In 2005, Matt Hardy suffered an injury and asked then friend Edge to keep an eye out for his real-life girlfriend Lita while he was home and she was on the road.

Edge managed to do more than that as he and Lita sparked a love affair behind Hardy's back.

Even as I type this, I still can't believe this wasn't made up.

Ultimately, Hardy lost his job due to this affair and was later rehired after some serious fan backlash.

After coming back Edge and Matt hardy went on to have one of the biggest feuds of the "Ruthless Aggression" era.

Dudleyz vs. Hardys, vs. Edge and Christian

5 of 5

That's right fans, we can't forget the tag-team division.

The Dudleyz, Hardy's and Edge and Christian, were probably the hottest tag-teams going in the late 90's early 2000's.

They not only had great feuds against each other, but they also took a match concept and not only owned it, but made it almost impossible to be duplicated.

Ultimately, their feuds produced some great matches and compelling promos that will go down in history.
