Manchester United Transfer News: Tracking Latest Rumours and Updates

Dan TalintyreJun 5, 2018

The summer transfer window can be chaotic at times.

Change that, it's always chaotic—and Manchester United are no exception to the rule.

The Red Devils have been very busy to date trying to secure the players needed to take the title fight back to Manchester City next season in the English Premier League.

Some will bring an immediate impact; some will be a long-term plan.

Here's all the rumors, speculation and potential signings for United over the transfer window this summer—as well as the likelihood that they will find themselves at Old Trafford in the near future.

Shinji Kagawa

1 of 10

Borussia Dortmund star Shinji Kagawa has been arguably Sir Alex Ferguson's biggest target in the summer transfer window so far with the Red Devils looking to lock up his services for next season to boost their attacking options.

And whilst United are no doubt the frontrunners for the Kagawa's signature, the deal isn't just a formality with work permits and contract negotiations still ongoing between both parties. The latest from the Guardian has the deal moving closer to completion, but still nowhere near finalized.

There's no doubt that he would be a welcome asset to Old Trafford though.

Claudio Marchisio

2 of 10

According to Caught Offside.com, the Red Devils are keeping an interest in Italian midfielder Claudio Marchisio, who is currently under contract at Juventus.

With the Kagawa transfer pending and Nani subtly suggesting that his future at Old Trafford isn't as guaranteed as it might appear, Sir Alex Ferguson could well use the Portuegese winger to lure Marchisio to United for next season.

Papiss Cisse

3 of 10

Papiss Cisse is thought to be of high value to Sir Alex Ferguson, with the manager greatly impressed with the striker's performance in the latter half of the season for Newcastle United.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Cisse is being chased by both Manchester City and United, with the Red Devils perhaps finally finding the striker to complement Wayne Rooney up front.

£20 million could be enough to force Alan Pardew to sell Cisse, who at that price would be an excellent pickup for Manchester United in the transfer window.

Moussa Dembele

4 of 10

Belgian international Moussa Dembele—currently under contract at Fulham—is under the watchful eye of both Manchester United and Chelsea, despite the striker stating that he's "not in a hurry" to decide his future, according to Goal.com.

Dembele has been an excellent addition to the Cottagers side this season and would bring some further attacking talent at Old Trafford should Manchester United secure his services. At the moment however, the Red Devils are currently waiting to see what Dembele wants to do.

The ball, it seems, is in his corner now.

James Rodriguez

5 of 10

Despite plenty of media attention, Porto star James Rodriquez will not be making way to Old Trafford next season with his agent denying rumors that he is considering a move to Manchester—insisting that he is more than happy at Porto.

Tribal Football reports that Rodriquez's agent made the following statement:

"

"Man United? He's not thinking about them. He is relaxed about the future, has a contract with FC Porto and at the moment is totally focused on the national team..."

"

Seems pretty definitive to me.

Leighton Baines

6 of 10

Tribal Football also has word on the situation between Manchester United and Everton fullback Leighton Baines, with the Red Devils needing to up their bid if they are to secure his services for next season.

United originally valued the defender at around £12 million whereas Everton are wanting a figure in the vicinity of £20 million, leaving United with a tough decision to make regarding the money that they offer Baines.

Yet with both Chelsea and Manchester City spending big over the transfer window, United cannot afford to be coy or hesitant with their offer towards solidifying their defense.

Luka Modric

7 of 10

Sir Alex Ferguson might have a long-term interest in Luka Modric, but it appears that Manchester United's quest for the Croatian international is coming to an end, with the Red Devils falling about £10 million shorty of Tottenham's asking price, according to Fans FC.com.

With Tottenham wanting around £35 million and the Red Devils prepared to offer only £25 million, it appears that Modric will be remaining at White Hart Lane until a higher bid is brought forward.

Modric could shine for Croatia at Euro 2012, which could also have an impact on his asking price—putting United out of the equation all together considering the likelihood of the Red Devils meeting Spurs' price.

Kwadwo Asamoah

8 of 10

If you thought that Kwadwo Asamoah would be heading to Old Trafford over the summer transfer window, you'd be sadly mistaken, with the Examiner reporting that defender is heading to Juventus instead of Manchester United—who were believed to have been the frontrunners.

Considering that Mats Hummels and now Asamoah are both now unavailable, choices for the Red Devils to sign at central defender are starting to disappear rapidly and they must act fast if they are to secure a signing for next season.

Nathaniel Clyne

9 of 10

Thus United have joined the queue of teams vying for highly-rated Crystal Palace defender Nathaniel Clyne, who recently rejected a new contract from the club.

Manchester United lead a host of teams in contention for Clyne's signature, with Newcastle, Everton, Fulham, West Ham and Dutch champions Ajax all making contact for a potential move according to Sport 360.com.

The under-21 England international would continue Sir Alex Ferguson's rich history of securing the best young English talent available and would give United some welcome defensive security in the process, should he sign for the Red Devils.

Nick Powell

10 of 10

Finishing off the list is Crewe striker Nick Powell, who has reportedly agreed to a transfer fee with the Red Devils according to Inside Futbol

Powell scored a sensational goal in the League Two playoff final against Cheltenham and was a dominant force in attack for Crewe all season long. He would no doubt assist United's attack in the future should he sign with the Red Devils.

Although personal details are still being finalized and the deal not official to date, the fee is expected to cost United an initial £4 million with the potential for up to £2 million more through add-ons and contract extras.
