WWE Raw Preview: John Cena to Return, CM Punk's Uphill Battle and More

Kyle SchadlerJun 7, 2018

It’s Monday again and that means a new episode of WWE Monday Night Raw!

WWE’s flagship show has been going downhill over the past couple of weeks and has some fans frustrated. With the summer about to begin, the entertainment giant could very well be gearing up for something big.

For this week’s show, WWE has confirmed the return of John Cena and have also gone over a few other points as well.

Let’s see what the WWE has in store for the fans this week.

A Lone Showoff: Is Dolph Ziggler Ready to Drop Vickie Guerrero and Jack Swagger?

Dolph Ziggler has had Vickie Guerrero by his side since 2010. They started off in a romantic relationship but it soon developed into a professional one.

Guerrero would accompany Ziggler to the ring and brought him to the Intercontinental and United States Championships. He was also awarded the World Heavyweight Championship during this time but his reign was only minutes long.

Vickie soon brought Jack Swagger into the fold, much to the dismay of Ziggler. After butting heads a few times, Ziggler and Swagger began to get along and formed a team while Ziggler was still the United States champion.

After losing the belt, they began to team more regularly and have had multiple shots at the Tag Team Championship. Guerrero was unable to lead them to victory either time, and last week on Raw Ziggler may have finally had enough.

After Swagger took the pinfall in a title match, Ziggler walked out screaming, “I’m better than this!”

He continued his frustration on SmackDown when he interrupted Guerrero in her usual introduction of him.

Will Dolph Ziggler’s frustration continue this week? Will the tension between them lead to Ziggler going out on his own?

Intercontinental Gold: When Will Cody Rhodes Invoke His Rematch Against Christian?

When Cody Rhodes first won the Intercontinental Championship in August of last year, he soon evolved into one of the best champions the title had seen in years. He had also become one of the best WWE had to offer.

He took on all challengers, defeating the superstars of both Raw and SmackDown to keep his championship reign intact. He finally lost the title when he screwed with the wrong person.

At WrestleMania XXVIII, he lost the belt to the Big Show. He would get it back later that month, though, at Extreme Rules.

The son of the American Dream was ready to continue his reign of greatness, but it was cut short at Over the Limit. At the event, Christian made his return from injury and won a battle royal to challenge for either the Intercontinental or United States Championship.

He ultimately went for Rhodes and defeated him later on in the night to win the title. Since then, they have sat ringside for each others matches but have yet to get physical and Rhodes has yet to invoke his rematch clause.

Will this be the week that Cody Rhodes demands his rematch? If so, will the match occur at No Way Out?

An Angry Dinosaur: Will the Funkasaurus Be Looking for Some Revenge?

Brodus Clay debuted as the Funkasaurus in January and ran over many of WWE’s lower mid-card superstars. Coming to the ring with the Funkadactyls, he would smile, dance and just have a good time while in the ring.

He has gone undefeated ever since his debut, but his streak was in major jeopardy last week on Raw.

Scheduled to face the Big Show, this would be the first time he faced someone in the main event scene and someone who was bigger than he was. Brodus took no chance and just went right for the World’s Largest Athlete, but he got speared out of his boots for his trouble.

Big Show then proceeded to beat down the fan favorite, including knocking him out with the WMD. WWE.com then announced that the Funkasaurus suffered a concussion as well as some bruised ribs from the attack.

Will Brodus Clay appear on Raw this week? If he does show up, will he be looking to do some damage of his own?

A Rampaging Giant: What Can John Cena Do to Stop the Big Show?

There wasn’t a single person shocked, except for John Cena, when the Big Show helped John Laurinaitis secure a victory over the face of the WWE at Over the Limit.

Big Show declared that he hated the fans and everyone in the locker room because no one cared that he was fired. A match was then booked between him and John Cena at No Way Out and the match will take place inside a steel cage.

The World’s Largest Athlete has since been mowing down superstar after superstar. Last week alone he took out Brodus Clay, the tag team champions Kofi Kingston and R-Truth, Zack Ryder and the United States champion Santino Marella.

That’s quite impressive for one week of work. Cena wasn’t present last week, though.

This week, the face of the WWE returns to confront his No Way Out opponent.

Can the Big Show knock John Cena out once again? Will John Cena have a plan to slow down this rampage? Does Cena possibly have some backup in the form of a Funkasaurus?

A Big Red Problem: How Will CM Punk and Daniel Bryan Deal with Kane?

There was a bit of controversy from the finish of the CM Punk/Daniel Bryan match at Over the Limit. While Bryan was pinned, Punk did tap out to the Yes Lock.

Even though he tapped out after the pinfall, Bryan saw that as an argument to stay in the title hunt. Since he made Punk tap out, he believed he could do it again. Both superstars made a big mistake, though.

They started to screw with Kane, each hitting him with a chair and making the Big Red Monster believe it was the other. Kane finally became aware of what was going on and just went after both of them.

Bryan even made the huge mistake of attacking Kane before a No. 1 contender’s match on SmackDown, which ultimately resulted in Kane getting pinned by Alberto Del Rio.

This past Friday on SmackDown, the WWE Championship was defended for the first time in four years as Punk went up against Kane. It was a hard fought battle that ended in a no-contest when Bryan attacked both of them.

Kane had the last laugh, though, as he delivered a massive double chokeslam to both of them.

They finally realized their mistake when general manager John Laurinaitis added Kane to their WWE Championship match at No Way Out, thus making it a triple threat match.

It was their fault that Kane was ultimately added to the match, so how will they deal with a Big Red Monster now eying the WWE Championship?

WWE really needs to step up their game when it comes to Raw. Will things begin to pick up this week? Tune in to find out!
