25 Awesome Fan-Made Wrestling Themed Pastries from SugarSlam II
It truly is amazing the ways some people show their love and support for their favorite athletes and teams.
Some show it by getting a tattoo of a team mascot. Others might put a bunch of bumper stickers on their car while many have been known to wear jerseys for their home team.
Wrestling fans are no different. They will get wrestling-inspired tattoos, buy the merchandise and make signs to bring to shows.
Another way some fans show love is through sugar, flour and some creativity. What I am talking about are some of the incredible fan-made pastries which had wrestling-inspired designs from SugarSlam II.
For those of you who have never heard of it, SugarSlam is a wrestling themed baking competition put on by Natalie Slater of BakeAndDestroy.net.
It allows wrestling fans to show their love for their favorite superstars, or the sport as a whole, by creating a cake, cookie or any other confection which is inspired by a wrestler.
Some of the entries are truly amazing artistic achievements while others appear to be superbly crafted delicacies.
In this slideshow you will get to see 25 of the coolest and most unique creations from SugarSlam II. This is in addition to the awesome Rey Mysterio cake pictured above.
SugarSlam III is also coming up, so for anyone who might be interested in entering please read on for details or visit BakeAndDestory.net for the official rules and details, which will also be provided at the end of the slideshow.
Gorilla Monsoon Cake
1 of 26This cake was designed to showcase a true legend in the wrestling industry, Gorilla Monsoon.
Monsoon was an accomplished wrestler, writer, booker, promoter and color commentator. He was so influential in the backstage happenings of the business that they named the "Gorilla position" after him.
CM Punk Cupcakes
2 of 26These cupcakes were created by a fan of CM Punk. Each cupcake showcases one of Punk's trademark symbols or tattoos with some of his famous lines on a sheet in the background.
Some of these would also make great poker-themed cupcakes, but that is a different article for a different day.
Ultimate Warrior Cookies
3 of 26These Warrior-inspired cookies showcase many of his different expressions, and they do it just as well as the real Warrior. Please don't kill me, Jim Hellwig.
Seriously, though, what wrestling fan—whether a fan of the warrior or not—wouldn't buy these if they saw them in a grocery store? I would.
Luchabread Men
4 of 26Another one in the cookie category gets its inspiration from the stars of the Mexican lucha libre promotions.
Gingerbread men are apparently no longer just a Christmas cookie. La Parka stands out as the most recognizable of the bunch, as many fans will remember him from his days as the chairman of WCW.
What Does Everybody Want? Cake!
5 of 26As a big fan of Al Snow, there is no way I could possibly leave out this Head-inspired cake.
When Snow first began to carry around that mannequin head with "Help Me" written on it backwards, people did not know what to think, but as time went on, it became a cult phenomenon in WWE.
To this day you will occasionally see a fan in the crowd either holding up a Head of their own or holding a sign in honor of it.
Big Boss Man Cake
6 of 26So there is someone out there who is not only still using WWE bed sets but is a big enough Big Boss Man fan to make a cake?
If this person is near my age and female, I may have found my next wife. On a serious note, though, this had to be included simply because it is made for a superstar many would not expect to have their own tribute cake.
Boss Man was one of my favorite gimmicks as a child, so this one struck a chord with me as a long-time fan.
Andre Cake
7 of 26The famous image of Andre is unmistakable by those mutton chops.
Andre was a legend who helped change the business, and his legacy lives on in WWE today. His match with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 3 may be his best known, but if you look around, you will find some of his better stuff from before that night.
Beth Phoenix Cake
8 of 26What do you get when you take an action figure and stuff it into a cake? A pretty cool idea. This is what came out of it when this baker took a dome-shaped cake, put Beth Phoenix inside and made a gown for the Glamazon.
While this dress is not something we have seen Phoenix wear, it still deserves a lot of credit for being original.
Billy Graham Pie
9 of 26This pie may not look like a wrestler, but anything involving Billy Graham gets a mention in my book.
Graham's rainbow tie-dye look is well known, and this pie looks just like the shirt he is wearing in the picture. I am betting it tastes pretty good, too.
ECW Cake
10 of 26Seriously, Mom and Dad, where was this cake when I was a kid?!
This ECW-inspired cake is straight out of my childhood wishes. The package is complete with action figures, and there is even pyro on the ring posts.
I can imagine this as a special order made at a bakery for a wrestling fan.
Ric Flair WHOOOOOpie Pies
11 of 26You have to give credit where credit is due. These may not be the most polished looking pastries on the list, but they certainly are creative.
Flair's trademark tights, blond hair and even his penchant for bleeding are all represented on a little low-calorie treat.
The one on the left is probably a little closer to the bloodshed we typically see from the over-blading Ric Flair.
George Steele Green Tongue Cupcakes
12 of 26Not only do these cupcakes have the classic WWF logo on the top for a nostalgic feel, but when you bite into them, they turn your tongue green.
You may ask what does that have to do with wrestling. Well, gather 'round kiddies, and let me tell you why having a green tongue is related to wrestling.
George "The Animal" Steele was a beloved wrestler who used to tear open the turnbuckles with his teeth, flirt with Miss Elizabeth and wreak havoc on his opponents in the ring.
Another of his trademarks was having a green tongue. I am not sure why he had it. Perhaps it was to push the Animal part of his gimmick, but I always found it funny.
Flair vs. Hogan Cake
13 of 26This cake was designed to commemorate a match that never technically happened.
Flair and Hogan were supposed to have a big showdown at WrestleMania 8, but instead we saw Flair face Randy Savage and Hogan face Sid Justice.
Judging by the candles, I would say this was probably another birthday cake for a lucky WWE fan.
Kamala Cake
14 of 26Another of the over-the-top gimmicks from my childhood managed to get its own cake: that of the Ugandan Giant, Kamala.
Kamala is probably less known to today's younger fanbase than the likes of a Flair or Sting, so to see someone go to the effort to make a cake in his likeness is nice to see.
Kane Cake
15 of 26Kane's mask, made of chocolate and raspberry, is another of the cakes featuring the face of a superstar to make the list.
This was made way before Kane returned with a new mask, so it has the design from his original run with the black and red stripes.
Macho Man Cupcakes
16 of 26To think that someone spent the time to make such a good design on such a small canvas like a cupcake is truly a testament to this person's love of wrestling.
The classic savage look is complete with the over-the-top color schemes that littered the 90s and his trademark hat and sunglasses.
If you ever get to eat one of these, it is required that Pomp and Circumstance be playing in the background.
More Lucha Libread
17 of 26Instead of going with small cookies in the shape of wrestlers, this person decided to make bigger cookies in the shape and design of some lucha libre masks.
These are well done, and I could see something like this actually being sold in Mexico due to the high popularity of masks among lucha wrestlers.
It is a thing of history in Mexico for wrestlers to wear masks, and it seems to be popular among bakers as well.
Macho Man Cake
18 of 26This person was obviously a Macho Man fan who was affected by his sudden and tragic death.
The cake, made for Macho as a memorial, looks professional, delicious and is a great way to show the love this person must have had for Randy Savage.
Max Moon Pies
19 of 26This person gets extra points for using a superstar who was not well known, but whose name actually goes along with the pastry used.
A Max Moon pie is not something you will see Hostess making anytime soon, but they do look delicious, so maybe Max and the rest of his Moon Walkers can start a letter writing campaign.
I am not even sure what this gimmick was supposed to be, but I do remember him losing to Shawn Michaels on the first Raw.
Edge vs. Mick Foley Cake
20 of 26This is either the coolest cake made to commemorate a match, or it is a demented wedding cake. Perhaps it is both.
Either way, I love the design used on the bottom layer to represent Mick Foley and the design used on the top for Edge.
This is another cake that looks like the person making it is either a professional baker, or should be, based on their talent.
Mick Foley Cake
21 of 26Another cake for the demented man with multiple personalities takes on his likeness this time around.
The person who made this took the time to get his teeth to look accurate—that awards them extra consideration.
Mysterio Cake
22 of 26Another Rey-inspired piece takes a more traditional approach than the one featured on the first slide.
This is yet another product I could see being sold in professional bakeries for children's birthdays, especially given Mysterio's popularity among kids.
Sheamus Cake
23 of 26The master of the Brogue Kick gets the cupcake treatment in this entry.
Sheamus has really grown on me over the last year, but seeing someone having made a cupcake for him close to a year ago makes me think he has to be doing something right.
Shock Master Cupcake
24 of 26The Shock Master is one of the worst and also funniest moments in wrestling history.
This baker gets a huge thumbs up from me, as I would never have expected this contest to contain an entry related to the Shock Master.
If you do not know who or what the Shock Master is, I suggest you go to YouTube right now and check it out.
The Rock Cake
25 of 26Last, but not least is a cake inspired by the Great One.
While I am sure Rocky would have preferred a pie or pancakes, I do not see how anyone could not find this creation to be excellent.
The eyebrow, glasses and silhouette create the unmistakable image of Dwayne Johnson.
