Big Ten Football: Weekly 2013 Recruiting Roundup

Adam JacobiJun 7, 2018

Every Wednesday here at The Big Ten Blog, we will update you on the latest commits, decommits and rumors in the recruiting world.

Commits

Nebraska keeps quietly adding to a solid recruiting class during this offseason, and per HuskerExtra.com, the Huskers' latest addition is tackle Dan Samuelson from northern Indiana. Samuelson is a horse at 6'5" and anywhere from 275 to 295 pounds, and he had been a Pitt verbal before flipping to Nebraska last week. Bo Pelini is doing a solid job with this class and it looks every bit as physical as Husker fans have come to expect from their team.

Illinois added Trotwood-Madison cornerback Reon Dawson to its growing 2012 class, per Scout.com ($$). If that school sounds familiar to Illini fans, it's because classmate Jarrod Clements, a 3-star DT, is also an Illini commit. Dawson is a unusually tall cornerback prospect at 6'2" and 175 pounds, and he selected the Illini over a host of decent programs, including Penn State, West Virginia and Pittsburgh.

That's all for this week. Finals and all.

Decommits

None, though Michigan and Nebraska are both hurting after 5-star safety Su'a Cravens canceled his unofficial visits to both campuses, as confirmed by the Omaha World-Herald, and doesn't plan to reschedule either before his planned commitment date next week. Again, finals are the announced reason for the cancellation, but this probably means Cravens is staying closer to home and picking USC.

News & Rumors

Per Tom Tolley of Victory Bell Rings, Penn State is gearing up for a busy month, with a host of offers going out to safeties and linebackers around the area. Don't be surprised if Duke commit Evrett Edwards takes another look at PSU after receiving an offer, because Duke is terrible.

Alex Anzalone tweeted that Notre Dame and Penn State would be in to visit his school today. His recruiting status hasn't changed much since his freaked-out decommitment from Ohio State and it wouldn't be surprising if he just keeps recruiting on the back-burner for the coming weeks and months.

MGoBlog noticed a slight but significant drop in the Top 100 rankings of every single Michigan commit after Rivals.com's latest revision of its rankings. This isn't cause for concern nor evidence of bias against Michigan, though. It's just the natural consequence of adding more recruits to the list of properly evaluated players.

It's also an issue of the still-uncommitted prospects gaining more attention (and thus hype). Top Michigan RB target Derrick Green, for example, is now the No. 12 player on the list as a 5-star player. Would his ranking be skyrocketing here in late May if he had quietly committed to Michigan back in March? Probably not.
