WWE SmackDown: Where Is CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan Headed? (Spoiler Alert)

Leonardo SplinterMay 30, 2012

SPOILER ALERT!: If you do not want to know the outcome of the CM Punk vs. Kane WWE Title match on SmackDown, stop reading now.

Last night at the SmackDown tapings, the WWE Title was decided for the first time since October 10, 2008 when CM Punk defended his Title against the big, red monster Kane.

The match ended in a disqualification when Daniel Bryan interfered (spoilers via PW Mania). A triple-threat match between CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Kane was then set for No Way Out on June 17.

Many fans are disappointed with WWE's decision to insert Kane into the CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan feud and would rather see a one-on-one rematch between Punk and Bryan. However, they shouldn't be.

Regardless of who wins at No Way Out, a one-on-one PPV rematch between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan will inevitably take place sometime, somewhere; whether it's for the WWE Title or not.

The question is when and where?

The next available time and place for them to do so would be at Money In The Bank on July 15. Considering both wrestlers' history with Money In The Bank, perhaps Daniel Bryan and CM Punk should face each other there in a ladder match for either the WWE Title (if either man wins at No Way Out) or for a No. 1 contender spot for the WWE Title (if Kane wins at No Way Out—which likely won't happen).

CM Punk has won two Money In The Bank ladder matches—one at WrestleMania XXIV and one at WrestleMania XXV. CM Punk then went on to win the World Heavyweight Championship on two separate occasions after cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcases (once against Edge on a June 30, 2008 episode of Raw and once against Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules 2009).

At last year's Money In The Bank PPV, Daniel Bryan won the SmackDown Money In The Bank ladder match. Bryan went on to win the World Heavyweight Championship after cashing in his briefcase at TLC against Big Show.

So what?

Considering Raw and Smackdown are no longer truly separate brands (many wrestlers from each show wrestle on both shows), perhaps it would be a good idea to have only one eight-man ladder match and replace the other customary eight-man ladder match with a one-on-one ladder match between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.

What better way to add variety to the CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan feud than to have them face each other in the match type that elevated their careers?

Also, what better way to illustrate the importance of the Money In The Bank ladder match than to showcase (at Money In The Bank) how far two of its winners have come since winning the match?

Having CM Punk face Daniel Bryan in a one-on-one ladder match at Money In The Bank could also lead to a traditional one-on-one match between the two at SummerSlam.
