5 Teams That Steve Nash Could Win a Championship with in 2012
Steve Nash is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and contenders from all around the NBA will check in on his services. Nash has made it clear he wants a title, but which team would give him the best shot to win his first ?
The Miami Heat? The Dallas Mavericks? Read on to find out five teams that would instantly become title contenders with the addition of the veteran Steve Nash.
Atlanta Hawks
1 of 5The Atlanta Hawks have All-Star caliber players at SG (Joe Johnson), PF (Josh Smith) and C (Al Horford), but can't seem to get past the first round of the playoffs consistently. They lack the ability to execute in late-game situations and need a true floor general to do so. Enter Steve Nash.
Nash is one of the most unselfish players in the NBA and more than capable of distributing the rock amongst the Hawks. Add Nash to the Hawks and they would instantly be a serious threat to top teams in the East like the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls.
Nash would give the team a noticeable advantage at point over Miami and Chicago (with Derrick Rose out with the torn ACL) and a chance to make some serious noise in the postseason.
Dallas Mavericks
2 of 5Before joining the Phoenix Suns, Steve Nash had six highly successful years with the Dallas Mavericks and established a great friendship with Dirk Nowitzki. Now Nash is a free agent and the Mavs have a significant hole at point guard.
A reunion of Nash and the Mavs would be great for publicity and make the team better in one stroke. This is basically a win-win for the franchise.
Nash would immediately form a deadly pick-and-roll duo with Nowitzki and the Dallas shooters would get much more open shots. Add a couple role players and the team would be in title contention once again.
Indiana Pacers
3 of 5The Indiana Pacers took the Miami Heat to six games and really showed the NBA they are serious about contending. The team will have a ton of cap space this offseason and could sign several impact free agents.
While the Pacers are very talented, they are young and have minimal playoff experience. Steve Nash has played in 11 postseasons and would instantly become the most experienced guy on the team.
The Pacers need a veteran presence at point guard who has been through it all and is able to distribute the rock to the several scorers on the team. Steve Nash would be the perfect player for the Pacers to sign if they are serious about contending with Miami and Chicago.
Miami Heat
4 of 5This is the destination everyone seems to be talking about, as Steve Nash to the Miami Heat would be downright scary. Imagine Nash, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh on the floor together during an end game situation. They would be unstoppable.
This is by far the best chance Nash would have at an illustrious championship. Hands down.
Los Angeles Lakers
5 of 5The Los Angeles Lakers would be an interesting fit for Nash, as Kobe Bryant is used to handling the ball. Nash needs the ball in his hands to be effective so Kobe would have to be willing to sacrifice some touches for the greater good of the team.
Nash along with Kobe, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum would also be unstoppable. As a Suns fan, I really hope Nash doesn't go to LA because the Lakers would be much closer to yet another NBA title.
