NBA Lottery 2012: Teams Sure to Make the Wrong Selection

Alvaro AlfaroJun 7, 2018

With the 2012 NBA Draft Lottery just a day away, speculation still lingers around what franchises will do with their Lottery pick.

And with the draft on June 28 even more uncertainty is sure to come.

These six teams that can potentially receive lottery picks have made questionable decisions up to this point. What they do with their pick will be a reflection of some of the mistakes they've made in the past.

Charlotte Bobcats

1 of 6

The Bobcats are pretty much locked in with taking Anthony Davis. There's no way that they can screw things up here. The only way that they make the wrong selection is if Kazaam was calling the shots. However, with Michael Jordan steering the ship anything could happen.

In an effort to avoid another Kwame Brown fiasco, his "His Airness" could cave and select the small forward from Kentucky, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist instead of another big man.

Brooklyn Nets

Desperate for a splash, the Nets could get trigger happy in the Lottery if they get their top three protected pick.

UConn's Andre Drummond could fall into their laps at No. 3, but the only problem is they already have a talented center in Brook Lopez. However, this pick might also be used as a trading piece to get Dwight Howard.

But would the Magic even accept a package deal involving either center?

Utah Jazz

3 of 6

If the Utah Jazz manage to get a lottery pick at eight or higher, expect them to squander it. A playoff team in the lottery? This is a typical rich get richer scenario. No way.

The pick would be used on the best player available regardless of position. And with a team already built to make the playoffs there aren't too many gaping holes. Especially in the already deep power forward slot made up of Paul Millsap and Derrick Favors.

John Henson from North Carolina could very likely be taken in that spot.

Phoenix Suns

The Suns could squirm their way into the lottery and draft their point guard of the future. But with Steve Nash playing out of his mind and showing a willingness to return, the draft pick should be used on another position.

However, the allure of North Carolina's Kendall Marshall could be too much for the Suns. Picking Marshall over Nash would be a big mistake that the Suns seem very capable of making.

New Orleans Hornets

5 of 6

With forwards Chris Kaman and Carl Landry set to hit free agency the Hornets have the choice of drafting a big man or instead picking a complimentary small forward to match up with Eric Gordon.

With Al-Farouq Aminu waiting in the wings, drafting a center would make a lot of sense.

However, a returning Emeka Okafor could cloud the Hornets judgement.

Drafting North Carolina's Tyler Zeller in the Lottery could flip things around for this franchise, or flip it upside down.

Sacramento Kings

6 of 6

What are the chances the Kings draft another guard?

Since drafting Tyreke Evans in 2009 the team has constantly changed his role on the team in order to fit in their smaller guards.

Evans has moved from the lead guard, to shooting, and last season he was penciled in at small forward for the sake of Isaiah Thomas, Jimmer Fredette and Marcus Thornton. If the Kings reach and draft Austin Rivers, fans might get lucky enough to see Evans play some power forward.
