Summer Transfer Rumors: Salomon Kalou Set to Replace Raul at Schalke?

With Chelsea looking to become an even younger squad this summer, Salomon Kalou is one of the veterans who will be looking for a new club.

Kalou, who joined the London club from Feyenoord in 2006, is being linked to a move to join the already potent attack at Schalke according to reports.

The Bundesliga side finished third in the German top flight this season and will be headed for the UEFA Champions League next season, a competition which saw them reach the semifinals during the 2010-11 season.

The Gelsenkirchen based club will have to replace living legend Raul, as the Spaniard decided not to come back to the club and join Al Sadd in Qatar.

The loss of the Spanish forward leaves a spot open in the attack for a squad that knows how to score goals almost at will.

Up front, the club boasts one of Europe's most prolific strikers this season in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who scored 48 goals in all competitions this season.

Ironically enough, Huntelaar was also a castaway from a top European club, as he failed to breakthrough with Real Madrid and AC Milan before joining Schalke.

Also up front with Huntelaar is Jefferson Farfan, an exciting Peruvian winger who now plays up front for the club.

The addition of Kalou would bring Schalke a third experienced forward that knows how to score goals.

In his time at Chelsea, Kalou was never the primary goal scorer but he did tally double digit goal totals in four of his six seasons.

Kalou will be asked to have the same production level at the Veltins Arena if he decides to join Schalke as Huntelaar will be the main goal scoring threat.

The 26-year-old Ivorian still has plenty of his career ahead of him and he will fit the role that Schalke are looking to fill that was left vacant by the departure of Raul earlier this month.
