Alabama Football Recruiting: Tracking Targets for the 2013 Class

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

One of the reasons Alabama remains one of the top teams in the country is because it is a program that recruits extremely well. The Crimson Tide are one of those teams that does not rebuild, they simply replace talent with talent.

Last season, Alabama had one of the top recruiting classes in the country, landing 26 talented prospects. For the 2013 class, Nick Saban and company have already received 14 early commitments, giving them a top class early on once again. With many other top recruits having Alabama on their list, you can guarantee that this team is far from finished putting together another top class.

Here are the latest updates on some of the top 2013 prospects that are considering Alabama.

James Quick

1 of 8

Latest Status: Considering Oregon, Ohio State, Louisville and Alabama, among others.

Quick is one of the top receivers in the 2013 class as he does a lot of things well. He has a great pair of hands, runs excellent routes and is very quick. He is a playmaker with the ball in his hands, which also makes him valuable on special teams as well.

The 5-star wide receiver also plays basketball, but now that the season is over, he should begin to dive deeper into the recruiting process. Louisville is one of the favorites considering he is from there, but do not count out Nick Saban and company just yet.

Vonn Bell

2 of 8

Latest Status: Considering Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee and Arkansas, among others.

Bell is a ball hawk in the secondary and is capable of delivering bit hits, which is why he is considered one of the top safeties in this year's class. He lacks great size at 6'1", 190 pounds, but is a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball and is capable of playing the cornerback position as well.

The 5-star prospect has already checked out Alabama, along with a bunch of other schools, but says he wants to wait a bit before making an official decision.

"

"I do not have anything planned for the summer yet, but anything is possible," he said. "I am going to take at least a few of my official visits because I want to see how the campus is during the season. I want to see how the fans get out and support their team, how live it is, and just get a feel for things on game-day." (Via Scout)

Matthew Thomas

3 of 8

Latest Status: Considering Florida, Miami, Florida State, Alabama and South Florida, among others.

Thomas is an athletic outside linebacker, who has terrific speed and plays the game with a very aggressive style. He needs to continue to bulk up to become an every down player, but he covers a lot of ground on the field and should become a playmaker at the next level.

Being from Miami, FL, Thomas is heavily considering all of the Florida schools, but it would be foolish to count out the Crimson Tide.

"I am high on a lot of schools right now. I have not been on many visits, so I am not ready to name a leader yet," Thomas said. "Alabama, Miami, Florida State, Florida, Oklahoma, and some others are recruiting me hard, so I am looking back at them and some others right now." (Via Scout)

Laremy Tunsil

4 of 8

Latest Status: Considering LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Florida, among others.

Tunsil is arguably the best offensive lineman in this year's class. He has amazing size at 6'6", 295 pounds, great footwork and very long arms. He still needs to bulk up a bit more, but has a ridiculous amount of upside at the tackle position.

He has offers from nearly every top school in the country, but really likes what Alabama has to offer.

"Alabama is a great school and they put a lot of guys in the NFL. They have a pro-style offense and I like the coaches there too." Tunsil said. (Via Scout)

Tunsil will end up making his official decision on national signing day.

Robert Nkemdiche

5 of 8

Latest Status: Considering LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia and Georgia Tech, among others.

Nkemdiche is considered the top defensive end by many recruiting websites. He has the ability to see the field right away with his size at 6'4", 268 pounds. He is extremely athletic, has the ability to play inside or outside and plays the game with a very high motor.

Many are not quite sure when he will commit, but there are several schools that remain in the running. Georgia schools have a shot considering he is from Loganville, GA. His brother, Denzel Nkemdiche plays for Ole Miss, while LSU and Alabama have always been atop his list.

Whoever lands this 5-star recruit, will have hit the jackpot.

Stacy Coley

6 of 8

Latest Status: Considering Alabama, LSU, USC, Miami and Oregon, among others.

Coley is a 6'1" wide receiver that has decent speed and can become a deep threat the moment he steps on campus. He is a real thin receiver, but has as much upside as anyone in this class. With over 30 offers on the table, Coley has recently trimmed it down to just 10 that he is still considering.

"Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Florida, Miami, Oregon, USC, and Tennessee," he said. "A top ten is the best I could do right now. I can't really separate number ten from 20 though." (Via Scout)

Despite being from Oakland Park, FL, Coley says that location will not play much of a factor in his decision and he will make his announcement official on national signing day.

Greg Gilmore

7 of 8

Latest Status: Considering LSU, Florida, USC, Alabama, and Clemson.

Gilmore is another top defensive lineman that the Crimson Tide is looking at and he has the ability to play defensive end or defensive tackle at the collegiate level. He has great size at 6'4", 270 pounds and a bunch of different moves to get into the backfield.

He's cut a list down that included a ton of schools to just five and Alabama is one of those schools he is still considering.

"

“I went down to Alabama for the LSU game,” he said. "Coach (Chris) Rumph told me that they are taking three defensive linemen in this class and he wants me to be one of them. In my opinion, he is a really good coach. They also send a lot of guys to the NFL and have a good weight program.” (Via Scout)

"

There is no timetable set for his announcement, but he says that he will eventually pick the school that he is most comfortable around the coaches and players.

Hunter Henry

8 of 8

Latest Status: Considering Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Stanford, and Oklahoma.

Henry is one of the top tight ends in this year's class and has quickly cut his list down to just six schools. The 4-star recruit is a big boy at 6'6", 240 pounds, has terrific hands and can make plays after the catch as well. He is not the best blocking tight end in the world, but would provide Alabama with a sure handed option.

There is no timetable for a decision, but Henry would like to get it over with during the summer if possible.

"I have been thinking about when I want to commit and I have been praying about it too," said Henry. "I could be committing to someone this summer, God will let me know when the time is right. He will help me figure all of this out." (Via Scout)
