Why the Chicago White Sox Are White Hot

Ernest ShepardMay 28, 2012

The White Sox are scorching hot and headed into this week as winners of nine out their last 10 games.

After scoring at least nine runs in their last four games, the White Sox's swagger at the plate could not be more evident. In fact, during a seven-game stretch, the White Sox have tallied a total of 60 runs. That is 8.5 runs per game.

To say that the White Sox has been tearing the cover off of the ball has been an understatement. To go along with the 60 runs scored the White Sox have hit 17 home runs.

Guys that have struggled all season, like Gordon Beckham, went 4-4 in the White Sox’s 12-6 win on Sunday against the Indians. Dayan Viciedo has found his stride, and Alex Rios is finally showing some promise.

As of now, every player from the everyday White Sox lineup is batting over .200 with one exception (3B Brent Morel). Even newly acquired Orlando Hudson has had a moment here and there.

The sweep of the Indians should do for the White Sox what the sweep of the Cubs did for them last week: give them momentum and added confidence. The bats have awakened and the pitching has been somewhat stellar once you consider the 15 strikeout performance of Chris Sale.

The White Sox appear to be wresting away the AL Central from the grasps of the Indians despite low expectations. I know that we have not made it to June yet, but the summer looks very enticing.
