WWE: AJ Lee Will Only Spoil the Current Feud Between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan

David LevinMay 28, 2012

Before WrestleMania 28, I proclaimed AJ Lee as the new Miss Elizabeth of the WWE for being involved in matches where the diva has no business being ringside.

She was, however, instrumental in Daniel Bryan losing the World title to Sheamus in a whopping 18 seconds (I had to get that dig in).

But now the misguided one and lost soul of the WWE has set her sights on the WWE champion, CM Punk, which completely upsets the apple cart when it comes to the current state of affairs in the WWE.

Can we ever get a clean match between Punk and his current nemesis, Bryan? Can’t we see the best feud in the WWE and wrestling today sans interference, sans Kane and sans the little ticking time bomb that can’t seem to get herself away from the action outside the ring?

Maybe it has something to do with gold—yes, that’s it, she is attracted to gold. First Bryan and the World title and now Punk and his WWE title.

Who am I kidding, she is just part of the storyline, which makes little sense to me unless it proves Lee is a “black widow” and everyone she comes in contact with loses their titles because she is ringside, helping out or getting in the way of her “wrestler’s” success.

For that reason, maybe she still is “Miss Elizabeth” in terms of being in the way and being a nuisance.

The WWE has always had beautiful women involved in storylines that were impactful. While AJ is impactful and was with Bryan and his title reign and the storyline with Sheamus, her appearance on Raw Monday night did little to really set off Bryan, which it should have.

While Lee helped Punk fend off Kane when he came to the ring (which now looks like it could be a Triple Threat Match with Bryan deciding to be the final dance partner at No Way Out), I don’t see why we cannot get a clean match with two guys who sell for each other more so than any other competitors in the WWE.

It’s better than Punk and John Cena and more entertaining than Chris Jericho and HBK (in my opinion).

Punk’s title reign has been nothing if not impressive after his feud with Chris Jericho and the “family issues” angle was worked. Now, a love interest? Please. Punk’s standing in the company and his popularity to the fanbase is too crucial. A lovesick puppy angle is not going to win over fans.

And while Bryan doesn’t seem to give a damn about her anymore and did not seem concerned with her at ringside, the WWE should make changes to this program as fast as it did with Brock Lesnar.

It does not work.

Maybe we can sum it up this way: Ric Flair always had hot women at his side before and after matches. But did you see them get involved in matches and turn the tide? Did Mr. Perfect need a valet? Ricky Steamboat never brought his wife to the ring to “help” him win matches.

And we never saw Hulk Hogan or The Rock need someone at ringside as a cheering section.

Get the picture, WWE. She isn’t needed.

Lee is cute and perfect in other capacities within the divas division. But right now, this is an angle she needs to stay out of. Punk and Bryan really do not need Kane involved either. It just spoils the greatness of the two in the ring and the chemistry that has been forged over years.

Leave a good thing alone, WWE. You just may spoil it.
