Milwaukee Brewers: Why They Should Return to the Mitt Logo

Chris SchadJun 6, 2018

There has been a trend in all sports that what was old is now new in terms of a team's appearance. That trend has carried over to baseball, where, in the past year the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles have decided to put shades of old into their current uniforms and logos.

Both Toronto and Baltimore have gotten fond reviews of the new-but-old look, and it has lead to the teams having success on the baseball diamond.

Yes, it's not the reason for their success, but as they say, when you look good, you play good.

As teams continue to make their throwback jerseys their regular jerseys, the Milwaukee Brewers should return to the famous ball and glove logo that the team donned from 1978 to 1993.

There are many reasons why this makes sense. First, the Brewers had one of their most successful runs in franchise history with the ball and glove logo.

When baseball fans think of this logo, they think of Paul Molitor, Robin Yount and the rest of Harvey's Wallbangers who won the American League pennant in 1982. This shows that the logo has a lot of history and is recognized by fans all across baseball.

Brewer fans would also give this change rave reviews, as roughly half the apparel worn at Miller Park is the old blue and yellow jerseys rather than the team's current navy blue and gold jerseys. While that may be a determent toward team merchandise—which is why a team usually changes a logo—the mitt is a fan favorite.

The best part about the mitt logo is that it was designed by the people of Wisconsin. In fact, the logo was the result of a design contest in which a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student constructed the mitt out of the letters "M" and "B."

While a change from the current Brewers logo—which was introduced in 2000—is unlikely, it would be a move that would please fans and give the team more national exposure.
