Euro 2012 Predictions: Miroslav Klose and 3 Studs Who Will Shine in Group B

Ian HanfordJun 7, 2018

Group B is loaded with incredibly skilled players, but certain players' skills will shine brighter than their counterparts in Euro 2012's toughest grouping.

The German squad boasts skilled players on all three levels. Netherlands and Portugal have their share of skilled attackers and Denmark's squad, as a whole, flies under the radar.

This grouping has been referred to as the group of death for a reason. Each side is capable of beating the other, and each side is stacked with world-class talent.

Let's take a look at three players who will shine brighter than the others in Group B play.

Miroslav Klose

Klose is a German legend. He is one of ten players to ever make 100-plus appearances on the German national team, and has 63 career international goals.

Klose will have competition for the starting striker spot. Mario Gomez had a dazzling year with Bayern Munich, but Klose is a proven titan on the international stage.

He scored a goal in each of Germany's Euro 2012 qualifiers despite an average year with Serie A's Lazio. Klose may have lost a step in age, but he is a gamer who saves his best football for the grand stage.

If Klose doesn't start, he will be a key sub on Joachim Low's squad. He should start, though.

Gomez is the more skilled player with a youthful exuberance, but Klose's prior experience and production should not be overlooked.

Look for both German strikers to contribute their share, but all eyes should be on Klose as he enters the backstretch of his soccer career.

Robin Van Persie

Van Persie is arguably the world's most dangerous striker. He scored 30 goals for Arsenal this season and has reasonable international success.

In Van Persie's 63 international appearances, he has 26 goals. The Netherlands will rely on Van Persie, along with winger Arjen Robben, to spearhead their attack.

Van Persie is an elite talent. When the ball is at his feet, defenders shudder at the possibilities.

Germany is considered the favorites coming into Group B play, but the Netherlands should not be overlooked. Van Persie is a major reason for that.

He provides an elite goal-scoring presence that few players can parallel. That goes a long way toward the Netherlands repeating their Euro 2008 performance, where they defeated Italy and France to advance.

The Dutch striker's club situation is far from resolved, but Van Persie will light Euro 2012 on fire if he plays focused football.

Nani

Cristiano Ronaldo would be too easy of a choice here. Instead, let's look at the player Portugal will line up on Ronaldo's right side.

Nani is nowhere near Ronaldo in terms of skill, but who is?

In Nani's 52 appearances for Portugal's national team, he has scored 12 goals. He will need to play larger than life for Portugal to find their way out of Group B competition.

Nani complement's Ronaldo perfectly. He does not have Ronaldo's pure goal-scoring ability but holds many of the same creative traits.

Portugal needs Nani to showcase all these skills in Euro 2012. He must find his goal-scoring touch, but also defer to Ronaldo's electric talents.

Germany and the Netherlands are the two most talented teams in this pool, but Portugal should not be overlooked.

If Nani plays to his full potential, he and Ronaldo will form an enviable duo.
