WWE No Way out 2012: Why CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan Should Close the Show

Giulio RomanoMay 31, 2018

The last time WWE presented CM Punk taking on Daniel Bryan, the Internet Wrestling Community almost had a heart attack at the thought of their two personal favorites clashing one-on-one over the top championship.

Now they are going to go at it again. What will the hospital count be?

In all seriousness, there is definitely magic happening when both former indie stars meet in the ring. Call it charisma or pure talent, they have what it takes to take everyone's breath away and deliver nonstop action.

Yet for the life of them, they are still not closing the actual show. Why is that? Company officials would rather place them second to the likes of the golden boy, John Cena, and the Vince McMahon-wannabe, John Laurinaitis.

Will things ever change in WWE? Always the same old formula. Enough!

CM Punk and Daniel Bryan should be placed in the Priority One slot because...

It's What the Fans Want...

...and what the fans need.

Real action between real wrestlers in a wrestling company in front of wrestling fans. Sigh. Is that clear enough?

Who the hell cares about John Cena vs. John Laurinaitis anyway? Their match was so predictable, and it sucked. There; I said it.

CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are fan favorites despite their past (or present) as villains. They have that certain ingredient that makes their matches excellent and easily remembered for what it is: pure entertainment.

In anticipating such a great battle, people would be more inclined to order the show, and even more, to stay put until the very end.

If it comes on last, I would stay glued to my seat and start getting anxious or impatient because I cannot wait any longer. If John Cena closes the show, then after I see what I want to see, I leave!

Now I understand all those who pirate WWE pay-per-views. Why pay for something you don't finish? It is not OK, but if the company doesn't listen, then what other choices do people have?

In a nutshell, saving the best for last is always the best solution in this case.

CM Punk Is the WWE Champion for Heaven's Sake!

The WWE Champion deserves all the best in the company. He is the WWE Champion after all, not some second-rate Superstar.

Whether it is boxing or mixed martial arts or the Olympics, the top guy should get the honor of being in the main event.

It doesn't matter if your names are Brock Lesnar, Triple H or John Cena; you are not the champion. CM Punk is, so learn some humility and stand behind him until the situation changes. Geez! Even a child can understand that.

What does that say about the current state of championships in this company? What was once considered as rich and prestigious prizes has now been reduced to prop status; is that what it is? No way, Jose!

At the next show, CM Punk and his challenger should close the show because it is the way things should work. Since pro wrestling is scripted, it isn't hard to write that in, Mr. McMahon (or whomever decides), so do it!

If I was the top champion, I would put my foot down and demand the honor of closing the show. It is the least they could do. It's a standard everywhere else EXCEPT WWE...for now.

A First Time for Everything

When it comes to main-eventing, neither Daniel Bryan nor CM Punk have ever closed a show.

That being said, it would be great to see that. Both gentlemen have proved their worth to the WWE, and it is about time they get a chance to prove why they should have such an honor.

Others have been given such chances in the past. From Triple H to The Miz, superstars holding the top title or competing for it belong in the top spot. It is a natural thing to expect and the right call to make.

Do CM Punk or Daniel Bryan have less to offer than The Miz? I think not.

All three Superstars have their own brand of talent, and all three have been World Champions at one point in time. "Chacun son tour" in French, which means everyone gets their turn, and now, the time has come for the WWE Champion to have his.

It is exciting when you think about it. The first time of anything is a huge, huge thing, so imagine defending your title AND closing the show too...wow!

Judging from the reception both ROH guys received plus the feedback of their actual match, it would seem normal that in a few weeks, the main event of No Way Out will read: WWE championship match, CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan.

Something to look forward to perhaps.

Too Early to Tell...

Raw is on tonight, so everything can start being set up for an epic showdown come the end of June.

There's also that little firecracker A.J to consider. What role will she play in all this? Can she really be a factor in this whole "closing the show" bit?

What would truly be awesome is for WWE to totally surprise everyone by going the complete fair-and-square route. Pit CM Punk against Daniel Bryan, WWE championship on the line in some sort of No Way Out gimmick and, get this, have one win CLEAN!

What a surprise that would be. How great it would be for once.

No interference, no cheating, just plain sport.
