Messi and Ronaldo Watch: Another Goal and Trophy, Twitter Death, Predictions

Michael CummingsJun 7, 2018

With the long club season finally finished, there's only one thing left for Lionel Messi to do:

Be implicated in a crazy Twitter rumor about his own death.

But don't worry: Messi is alive and well, and we've got all the news concerning Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo right here in one convenient spot.

In addition to Twitter craziness, there's another trophy for Messi and a bunch of predictions attributed to Ronaldo.

All the details are inside.

Another Goal, Another Trophy

1 of 4

Lionel Messi scored his 73rd goal of the season as Barcelona defeated Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final on Friday.

The cup final win gave Barca four trophies this season. The other three were the Supercopa de España, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

It was the final match for manager Pep Guardiola, who announced in April that he would leave the club after the season due to fatigue.

Ronaldo, Portugal Held

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal were held to a scoreless draw against Macedonia in an international friendly on Saturday.

Portugal dominated possession, and Ronaldo came close with an 11th-minute free kick.

Portugal will play one more match before Euro 2012, against Turkey this weekend.

Highlights from the Macedonia match can be found here.

Twitter Death?

Shocking news rocked Twitter on Sunday, when an account maintained by FOX Sports announced the death of Lionel Messi.

The tweet—which was clearly false—was quickly deleted, but news sources picked up the story.

Predictions

4 of 4

Cristiano Ronaldo has been making predictions this week. At least, that's the spin being put on his words by media outlets.

At Goal.com, Ronaldo is quoted as saying Real Madrid will try to win all six trophies available to them next season.

Of course they will. Why else would they be playing?

ESPN Soccernet has Ronaldo saying he expects a "big tournament" from England. Fair enough.

And at Eurosport-Yahoo!, Ronaldo says Portugal's players and coaches "will have enough time to set up the tactics to beat Germany."

Of course, that's being reported as Ronaldo saying Portugal can beat Germany, which is not exactly what he said.
