USA vs. Brazil: Live Stream, Start Time, Predictions and More

Alec NathanJun 7, 2018

After a 5-1 drubbing of Scotland over the weekend, the United States Men's National Team are riding a wave of confidence. However, their confidence should be tempered as they gear up to face the Brazilian national team in an international friendly on Wednesday.

Similar to the USMNT, Brazil are coming off of a victory in their last international friendly against Denmark in which star forward Hulk netted two goals.

Under head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, the United States have won five consecutive matches—including a 1-0 victory over Italy.

Recent History

Perhaps the most notable meeting of the last five years, the 2009 Confederations Cup Final was a surprising clash between the United States and Brazil.

After defeating Spain 2-0 in the semifinals, the USMNT were serious underdogs heading into the final with Brazil. Up 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, the USA appeared to be in firm control.

However, three second-half goals by the Brazilians would ultimately doom the Americans and send them home empty-handed.

More recently, the two sides met in an international friendly at the New Meadowlands in 2010. After an impressive showing in the World Cup, the USA returned home and failed to provide hope to the fanbase that had witnessed such a grand turnaround in South Africa just months earlier.

Neymar and Pato would secure the only two goals of the match, leading Brazil to a comfortable 2-0 win.

Will Clint Dempsey Play?

When you think of United States soccer, two players likely come to mind: Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey. The former did not fail to impress against Scotland this past weekend, recording a hat trick.

Dempsey, on the other hand, did not see the field thanks to a nagging groin injury.

According to Brian Sciaretta of the New York Times, Dempsey is expected to reunite with Donovan for Wednesday's friendly with Brazil:

"

While Dempsey, 29, and Donovan, 30, have been integral parts of the United States team over the last decade, the two have yet to play together under Klinsmann. A groin injury was expected to keep Dempsey out of action Saturday, but the long-awaited reunion of the team’s two star players is expected for Wednesday’s game against the powerful Brazilians in Landover, Md.

"

Will Neymar Prove to Be Too Much?

It's no secret that Neymar is the world's greatest footballer currently not playing in Europe. Neymar absolutely torched the United States in their 2010 meeting, and his astounding performance signaled the end of the Bob Bradley era.

If the United States want to make a statement on Wednesday, they will need to contain Neymar at all costs.

Prediction: Brazil win, 3-1

Although the United States seem to have hit their stride as of late, Klinsmann's bunch do not possess the firepower to keep up with the Brazilians. For the United States to keep this one close, the back line led by Carlos Bocanegra and Steve Cherundolo will need to stand tall.
