UFC 146 Results: 5 Fights to Get Antonio Silva Back on Track

Jeffrey McKinneyMay 27, 2012

In his debut fight in the UFC, Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva was looking to make a statement as he took on former heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez at UFC 146

Instead, Silva was on the receiving end of one of the bloodiest beatdowns in recent MMA memory.

Silva was cut badly and eventually lost the fight by TKO.

Although Silva has wins over Fedor Emelianenko and former UFC champs Andrei Arlovski and Ricco Rodriguez, he has now lost his last two fights.

Here are some fights that could get Silva back on track.

Dave "Pee Wee" Herman

1 of 5

When Dave "Pee Wee" Herman came to the UFC last year, he had a 20-2 record and looked like he could be a great heavyweight prospect.

After a "Fight of the Night" debut win, Herman has lost two straight fights by knockout.

After losing at UFC 146, both Herman and Silva need a fight to bounce back and prove that they belong in the UFC.

Shane del Rosario

2 of 5

After missing over a year of action thanks to a car accident, Shane Del Rosario made his long-awaited UFC debut against fellow undefeated fighter Stipe Miocic at UFC 146.

While Del Rosario landed some good strikes in the first round, he eventually lost the fight by TKO.

Del Rosario is a good striker who may be the perfect level fighter for Silva to make a comeback.

Lavar Johnson

3 of 5

Lavar Johnson may have gotten caught in a submission by the long legs of Stefan Struve last night, but he is still a very dangerous heavyweight.

Johnson took the fight on very late notice but proved he was game for it, landing a big shot on Struve.

With three of his four losses coming by knockout, taking on a powerful puncher like Johnson may be what Silva needs to prove he can hang with top-notch strikers.

Brendan Schaub

4 of 5

Much like Antonio Silva, Brendan Schaub is a on a two-fight losing streak.

Also like Silva, Schaub has lost those fights by knockout.

Both men want to prove that they belong in big-name fights, but both also have to prove that their chins can withhold tough strikers.

This may be the fight to test both fighters.

Pat Barry

5 of 5

Pat Barry is one of the most fan-friendly fighters in the UFC today.

But even though he is a fan favorite, Barry has not been able to put together a good winning streak since he first came into MMA.

Barry wants to remain in big-name fights, but like Silva, he isn't at the level to fight top heavyweights.

Silva vs. Barry could be an exciting fight that would be a good win for either man.
