Nick Fairley: Detroit Lions Star Reportedly Arrested for DUI

Donald WoodMay 27, 2012

Detroit Lions star defensive tackle and prized first-round draft pick in 2011, Nick Fairley, was reportedly arrested for driving under the influence and attempting to elude police in Alabama Sunday morning, according to FOX 10 News.

This reported arrest comes less than two months after the former Auburn star was arrested for marijuana possession in Mobile, Alabama.

With two arrests in the span of less than eight weeks, there may be serious consequences handed down by the court that could affect the star’s playing time with the Lions this season.

What It Means

Fairley had character concerns coming out of college, but the Lions felt that they had the leadership on the team to keep the potential star on the straight and narrow.

Obviously, that hasn’t been the case.

With two arrests this close together, there is a chance that the courts could make an example out of the local star. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fairley gets the stiffest punishment possible from the Alabama courts.

What’s Next?

Depending on whether or not there was some sort of probation associated with his first arrest, Fairley may be facing jail time. At the very least, the former Auburn tackle will be punished with hefty fines and plenty of community service.

The Detroit Lions have to enact their own form of punishment, though.

Before Roger Goodell has to make the move, the Lions organization has to act fast to save its future star from ruining his career. Not only does Detroit have to suspend Fairley, it has to get him into a rehab center to clean himself up.

This isn’t college anymore.
