French Open Tennis 2012: Bold Predictions for Roger Federer
Roger Federer will try to improve upon his success thus far in 2012 and win the second French Open title of his amazing career over the next few weeks.
Roland Garros is the one place where Federer has not been very successful in his Grand Slam career. He has won every other Grand Slam tournament at least four times but always seems to come up short in Paris, especially if Spanish star Rafael Nadal faces him in the final.
Let's look at three bold predictions for Federer at Roland Garros.
The Road to the Semifinal Won't Be As Hard As People Think
Federer will likely have to defeat American star Andy Roddick and the talented Tomas Berdych if he is to reach the semifinals and set up a match with Novak Djokovic, the No. 1 ranked player in men's tennis.
While Federer and Roddick have had some intense battles in the past, especially at Wimbledon, Roddick is on the downside of his career, and has been awful at the French Open in his career.
Berdych is a good player, but he is no match for Federer on the Grand Slam stage. Expect the Swiss star to steamroll through the field into the semifinal.
Federer Will Defeat Djokovic in the Semifinal in 4 Sets
Novak Djokovic has been almost invincible in Grand Slams since last season, but the French Open has proved to be a real difficult challenge in his career.
Federer will meet the Serbian star in the semifinal and defeat him in four sets using his great experience on clay and powerful serve.
Federer will also want to prove that his loss to Djokovic at the 2011 US Open wasn't his last chance at winning a Grand Slam singles title.
Federer Will Defeat Rafael Nadal
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have formed an amazing rivalry over the years, especially at Roland Garros, where they have met four times in the final.
Nadal won all four meetings, and you can bet that Federer would love nothing more than to prevent the Spaniard from winning his unprecedented seventh French Open crown and add a 17th Grand Slam singles title to his own resume.
