The Doctor's Weekly WWE Raw Recap: The 154 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

I can't say thank you enough to the people who come here each week to read the ludicrous things I come up with and take the time to comment. I am working on something special for you guys as a way to say thank you.

Until I get everything worked out, I cannot reveal any details, but I think it is something everyone will be really excited about. It will go way beyond simply giving shout-outs to the occasional winner of a prediction contest. It's getting closer.

I truly appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, each week I recap SmackDown with a long list.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

The entries are made up of equal parts humor, recap, play-by-play, revelations, speculations, questions, answers and anything else I notice during the show. I sometimes comment on commercials, too, just because I get bored during them.

Contest

I have decided I want to use one custom image for the top of my recaps going forward, but I am not that good at creating those kinds of things.

Last week I started a contest which is continuing into this week. What I am looking for is one of my more graphically talented readers to help me out. This is a big favor I am asking so I am not expecting a ton of submissions, but any will be considered.

I want people to design some custom images and I will put up a slideshow which will allow people to vote for their favorite. The winner will be used on a weekly basis on my recaps going forward with credit being given to the artist in every article.

Here is what the specifications would have to be in order to qualify. The image would have to be a minimum size of 1200x900 to work, but bigger than that is just as good.

The image would need to incorporate the phrase "The Doctor's Weekly Recap List" and contain plenty of images relating to WWE and various Doctor Who-related items like The TARDIS, sonic screwdrivers, Daleks or anything else widely known as part of the Who-niverse.

For anyone who didn't get it from the rotating profile pics I use, I am a big Doctor Who fan. This is the primary reason I call myself The Doctor, in tribute to the show.

I am looking for one universal image to use for both Raw and SmackDown so excluding those words would be best so I can use it for both. Extra consideration will be given for putting the Bleacher Report logo in as well.

I am really looking forward to what you guys are able to come up with and just so people do not feel rushed, I am going to allow submissions for two weeks. June 4 will be when I post the slideshow for voting.

If you would like to submit an image please send an E-mail with the image attached as a JPEG to BR_Doctor@live.com along with your full name so the work can be properly credited. This e-mail was created just for this contest, so please contact me on my profile page for anything else.

So far, I have not had very many submissions at all, so any will be considered.

It is also not lost on me that my introductions have been getting longer and longer recently. That will change in a week or two once I have everything settled for all the things that are going on.

I try and interject some fun into these lists, so I hope you have fun reading this week's list of the 154 things we learned, loved and hated from the show.

1. Happy Memorial Day.
2. WWE starts off with a video highlighting those who have given their life in the defense of this country.
3. A video showcasing John Laurinaitis, Big Show and John Cena's feud since Over The Limit.
4. Man, this video is lasting way too long.
5. Big Show comes out and gets some major heat as he stands in the middle of the ring with a mic.
6. Show smiles a bit and says it was easy to make the fans smile, but it was all an act.
7. I love how Big Show responds to the What chants. He is actually the first person I have ever heard get the WWE fans to stop chanting it.
8. A Cena chant starts up right away though.
9. Big Show says he is set for life with the new contract he has, so he can do whatever he wants.
10. I am so glad he is a heel again. A happy-go-lucky giant is boring. A monster that makes anyone he faces an underdog is way more profitable.
11. Ha! He takes a jab at UFC while he is saying no athlete is in the same league that he is.
12. Are you listening, Brock?
13. Thank you, Show. He actually brings up how odd it was to have Brodus Clay do his thing right after we saw Big Show got fired.
14. It was terribly timed and I am glad Big Show brought it up.
15. I just saw a mini-Sheamus in the crowd!
16. Big Show says the person who let him down the most is John Cena.
17. Show replays the segment where Cena acted like a five-year-old child to show why he was disappointed in Cena.
18. Big Show reminds me of Angus in that shirt.
19. We go to commercial with Big Show leaving the ring after saying he will give Cena the worst beating of his career at No Way Out.
20. Ricardo Rodriguez brings out Alberto Del Rio to face Santino after the break.
21. Del Rio goes right for Santino after the bell but Santino is able to get in some offense after Del Rio runs into the corner while no one is home.
22. Santino goes for the Cobra but Alberto is able to lock in the Cross-Arm Breaker and Santino has no choice but to tap out.
23. Wow. That was a Ryback-length match. I don't even think it lasted a full minute.
24. Eve Lewinsky is backstage being buttered up by Alex Riley.
25. Big Show walks up and Eve says he gets to pick his opponent for tonight and Show looks at Riley.
26. Riley is trying to talk his way out of a match that isn't even official and Big Show says he doesn't have to worry, before slamming him into a brick wall.
27. I gotta give Riley credit. He took that hit to the wall pretty hard. Or it just looked really convincing.
28. R-Truth, Kofi Kingston and Little Jimmy are out for a Tag Team Championship match.
29. Nice touch for Truth to hold open the rope for Little Jimmy.
30. Vickie is out to some pretty good heat. I haven't heard her get booed this loud in a while.
31. What the hell are you wearing, Vickie?
32. Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler come out to challenge for the titles.
33. Swagger and Kofi start things off with some back and forth action until Kofi gets control.
34. Truth tags in and they double-team Swagger.
35. Riley hasn't trended on Twitter like this since he beat Miz. Or not. I don't really know or care.
36. Kofi and Truth hit a nice double enziguri on Ziggler as we go to commercial.
37. I like what Kofi and Truth are doing as a team these days.
38. When we return we see Swagger in control of Kofi, and Lawler describes how the challengers took control during the break.
39. We end up with Truth in the ring after a hot tag and he is taking it to Swagger. He almost wins after a huge DDT, but Ziggler saves the match.
40. Truth throws Kofi into Ziggler and Truth ends up hitting his finisher on Swagger to get the win and retain the titles.
41. That was a nice, fast-paced, exciting match, but I think they had a better match at Over The Limit.
42. Ziggler looks pissed at Swagger for losing the match and Vickie is playing peace maker.
43. Ziggler walks out on Swagger and Vickie, and Vickie screams her head off.
44. Well, that spells the beginning of the end for this mini stable.
45. Santino is backstage with a doctor and Big Show walks up.
46. Show grabs him by the face and Brodus Clay walks up to break things up.
47. Oh, Awesome. I would love to see Clay and Show duke it out.
48. Clay challenges Show, and Show accepts.
49. This must be how Clay loses his first match since debuting as the Funkasaurus.
50. This is going to be a good test of Clay's ability.
51. After the break we get Johnny Ace with his scooter, Eve "These glasses aren't real" Torres and David "This is tea in my mug" Otunga.
52. Eve is starting to remind me of Stephanie McMahon when she first found her stride as a heel character.
53. Ace announces that Clay vs Show is official as well as a stipulation for Show and Cena's match at No Way Out being a steel cage match.
54. Somehow, Johnny is claiming to be the most popular WWE superstar of all time.
55. He brings up WWE '13 needing a new cover and you can hear someone, either Michael Cole or Jerry Lawler, snicker in the background.
56. Cole is laughing his ass off right now as he makes some jokes about JL making a flub.
57. I don't know why, but for some reason I laughed really hard when the drum-roll started and Lawler said "Hey Cole, where did you get that drum?" It was a very "Waldorf and Statler" kind of joke.
58. Eve and Otunga reveal a mock cover for WWE '13 with Johnny Ace on the cover.
59. Line of the night from JL: "This game is going to be bigger than Pac-Man."
60. CM Punk comes out to break up the party.
61. I hope WWE actually does that as a limited edition cover. It would be a hilarious marketing gimmick.
62. Punk says JL and Pac-Man have something in common, not having any testicles.
63. I always thought Pac-Man looked like a giant testicle, although I don't know what that makes Ms. Pac-Man.
64. I wonder if Microsoft paid to be the XBox featured on this poster.
65. Punk reveals the actual cover with his likeness on it and the crowd seems to approve.
66. I want the JL edition complete with NJPW arena as a free DLC. Do it, WWE!!!
67. Punk makes a couple penis jokes and the crowd goes wild.
68. Ha. Punks calls Eve and Otunga "Hoeski and Carlton."
69. Being called Carlton is not an insult. Alfonso Ribeiro made that character awesome.
70. Punk makes some bold remarks to JL, who wishes him luck in his match with Daniel Bryan.
71. After the break we get Daniel Bryan's entrance. He gets a mixed reaction.
72. They replay the awesome segment where from Friday where Bryan hit Kane with a chair about 30 times.
73. A Yes chant starts as the bell rings.
74. Bryan and Punk go back and forth a little bit until Punk starts working over Bryan's arm.
75. Bryan reverses the hold and has Punk down.
76. This match is going to be hard to keep up with if they even go half the pace they did at OTL.
77. Punk's attire looks like it has a Halloween theme with the black-and-orange color scheme with the spiders and spiderwebs all over the place.
78. Punk bridges out of a pin and ends up hitting a backbreaker on Bryan for a near fall.
79. This is already a great match and we are only a couple of minutes in.
80. Oh Damn! AJ comes out wearing a CM Punk shirt as we head to commercial.
81. When we return, Punk is stomping a mud-hole in Bryan as AJ watches.
82. Bryan ends up turning things around with a huge dropkick to Punk in the corner.
83. Bryan looked like he was going to use Brock's kimura lock but he turned it into pin for a near fall.
84. AJ is looking super demented as she paces outside the ring.
85. Bryan is in pretty firm control until Punk hits a spring-board clothesline.
86. Bryan hits a beautiful superplex on Punk for another near fall.
87. Bryan removes the turnbuckle cover and AJ tries to tell the ref, which just distracts him even more from seeing it.
88. Punk ends up hitting the exposed turnbuckle and Bryan gets the pin.
89. AJ looks very upset as Bryan screams Yes to the crowd.
90. Kane comes out of nowhere and nails Bryan with a chair and then a Chokeslam onto the chair.
91. He turns to Punk, who grabs a chair that AJ throws in to the ring.
92. Punk drives Kane off with some chair shots and he stands tall in the ring with AJ looking happy with herself outside the ring.
93. The absolute sign of the night has to be "REGAL OR RIOT."
94. After the commercial we get Christian coming out to the ring.
95. I am shocked to see Michael Cole mention Chris Jericho's incident in Brazil without giving any actual details. I expected WWE to do some kind of quick apology on the show to the entire country of Brazil.
96. Miz is out to face Christian and Cody Rhodes is on commentary.
97. I just spotted a "WE WANT REGAL" sign.
98. It's awesome to see him getting some love when he isn't even a full-time wrestler on the show right now.
99. Miz is in control of Christian early on.
100. Cody is trying to say Christian is old.
101. Is 38 old?
102. I think Cody thinks this match is for the IC title, but I don't think it is.
103. Christian takes back control and tries to hit a spear but he runs into a boot.
104. Cody takes off his headset and distracts Christian so Miz can get a near fall.
105. Christian ends up hitting the Frog Splash for the win as Cody watches from the ramp.
106. JL is backstage with Eve and Otunga and Eve sends Teddy away for some coffee.
107. Seriously. What is with that outfit they have Teddy wearing?
108. JL is criticizing Otunga for tapping out to the STF while he managed to go through it twice at OTL without tapping out.
109. Otunga asks for another chance and JL says he can have it against Sheamus.
110. Teddy gives Eve her coffee, which she spits at him for being too cold. Teddy says it was iced coffee.
111. I never got the appeal of iced coffee. I like my coffee to be like Jillian Hall. Simple and Hot.
112. Miz is still in the ring after the commercial and he says he wants the loss stricken from the record books.
113. Miz gets all pissed off about how he doesn't have everything he wants.
114. As he threatens to not leave the ring until he gets what he wants, we hear Randy Orton's music hit and he comes out to a big pop.
115. Orton just walks up to Miz and hits an RKO like it's nothing.
116. I love how he did it right as Miz was about to say something like "I will end you."
117. I guess that is one way to get a disgruntled employee to leave the ring.
118. We see Dolph Ziggler backstage and he is talking to Vickie about being taken out of the tag team, and she says she will see what she can do.
119. What, is there a form she has to file or something?
120. Cena narrates another video about the soldiers of the U.S. Army.
121. WWE shows a lot of love to the troops and it is one of the things I like the most about them as a company.
122. A USA chant breaks out after the video and we see a shot of some troops in attendance.
123. Otunga is out first for his match with Sheamus.
124. Sheamus starts taking Otunga apart until Otunga pulls Sheamus' throat over the top rope.
125. Otunga tries three times to pin Sheamus and Sheamus kicks out each time.
126. Sheamus ends up hitting White Noise and the Brogue Kick for the win.
127. Damn! He looked like he hit Otunga with that kick pretty hard.
128. There's mini Sheamus in the crowd again.
129. An awesome promo airs for the new ECW DVD with Paul Heyman doing the voice-over.
130. I might have to go get that one.
131. Brodus Clay is out with Cameron and Naomi after the break.
132. Hahaha. There is a piece of tape or something on Clay's outfit.
133. He noticed it. I was hoping he would do his whole entrance not realizing it was there.
134. Clay looks like he is all business after his ring pyro hits as Big Show comes out with a new shirt and a mic in his hand.
135. Show says he is a fan of Clay's, but Clay is a bigger sellout than Show was when he did the Sumo match.
136. Show is antagonizing Clay, who gets out of the ring and taunts Show to come down.
137. Nice. A Doink reference.
138. I am glad Show says Doink actually had talent, because he did. That gimmick was awesome when Doink was a demented clown.
139. Show runs down and spears Clay outside the ring. That probably shook the whole building.
140. He picks him up and starts beating on him. The match hasn't even started.
141. Clay tries to fight back, but Show just runs him into a ring post.
142. The Funkadactyls look worried in the ring as Show brings Clay towards the announce table.
143. Kofi and Truth run down to help, but Show just picks up Kofi and throws him into Truth to take them down.
144. Big Show takes apart the table and uses a piece to hit Clay in the back.
145. I think Brodus cursed when Show hit him a second time. There was something bleeped out.
146. A small Cena chant gets going as Show hits Clay a third time. He then focuses on Truth and Kofi. He ends up throwing Kofi through part of the barricade by the timekeeper's area.
147. Clay starts to move a bit but Show hits a WMD to put him back down for good.
148. I guess Clay gets to stay undefeated while Show gets to look like a monster heel.
149. Good segment considering we didn't get a match we were promised.
150. The show ends with Big Show on the ramp with Johnny holding his hand up in victory.
151. I am a little surprised we didn't see Cena, Triple H, Paul Heyman or Brock Lesnar tonight.
152. Nothing involving the Divas title either, but we did get to see multiple Divas in non-wrestling segments, which is never really a bad thing.
153. Even though there were a few really good things I just didn't find tonight's show to be all that great. It wasn't terrible, but it does not stand out as memorable
154. Sorry if I wasn't as entertaining as usual tonight. I am not exactly in the best of spirits at the moment.

Thanks for reading and please feel free to share your thoughts on the show and additions to the list below.

I also have to take a moment and send my condolences, thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of Melissa DuBois. Mel just passed away Monday morning after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. She was only 29 years old.

She was a very special person to me and I will never forget the strength and courage she showed while going through one of the most miserable experiences a person can go through. Rest in peace, Melissa.

Go find someone you love and give them a hug.
