Arizona Diamondbacks: D-Backs Sign Miguel Montero to Contract Extension
Just a few hours after the Baltimore Orioles announced that they'd signed star outfielder Adam Jones to an extension, the Arizona Diamondbacks did the same with one of their stars, according to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi:
"Source: #DBacks and Miguel Montero agree on five-year, $60 million extension. Press conference expected Saturday.

Miguel Montero, 28, is currently in his seventh season in Arizona and is a career .270/.339/.442 hitter. Last season was one of his more impressive ones, hitting .282/.351/.469 with 18 home runs and 86 RBI, and it earned him a trip to his first career All-Star Game.

Through 38 games this season, Montero is only hitting .255 with eight extra-base hits. He ranks 11th among major-league catchers in WAR and eighth in fielding percentage. He has the third-best batting average among Diamondbacks hitters, leading them in slugging.
The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro notes how Montero waited on a previous offer from the Diamondbacks:
"Montero was offered four years and $32M at the end of February. He waited three months and hit .255 in the meantime and made an extra $28M.

Montero is set to make $5.9 million this season and was eligible to become a free agent thereafter. The new deal does not include a no-trade clause, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.
Arizona will now have Montero, outfielder Justin Upton and pitcher Trevor Cahill under contract until at least the 2015 season.
