The Doctor's Weekly SmackDown Recap: The 124 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

I can't say thank you enough to the people who come here each week to read the ludicrous things I come up with and take the time to comment. I am working on something special for you guys as a way to say thank you.

Until I get everything worked out, I cannot reveal any details, but I think it is something everyone will be really excited about. It will go way beyond simply giving shout-outs to the occasional winner of a prediction contest. It's getting closer.

I truly appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, each week I recap SmackDown with a long list.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

The entries are made up of equal parts humor, recap, play-by-play, revelations, speculations, questions, answers and anything else I notice during the show. I sometimes comment on commercials, too, just because I get bored during them.

Every week, I put in a little something to make things a little more fun. Two weeks ago I asked anyone who commented to leave the name of the country you lived in to see how far B/R's articles reach. On Monday's recap I forgot to mention Canada, so I apologize to those who commented from Canada. Here is an updated list including those left on this past Monday's recap.

Australia, England, Scotland, U.A.E., New Zealand, Qatar, Ireland, Guinea-Bissau, India, The Netherlands, The Philippines, Sweden, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Ukraine, Norway, Denmark, China, Mexico, Malaysia, Japan, South Africa, Korea, Portugal, Brazil, Greece, Canada, Romania, Lebanon, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and Chile. I apologize if I missed anyone.

This week I am doing something a bit different. I want to start using a custom image for my recap pieces each week, but I am terrible at that sort of thing.

Anyone who read last Monday's recap saw the hatchet-job I did, so what I am looking for is one of my more graphically talented readers to help me out. This is a big favor I am asking so I am not expecting a ton of submissions, but any will be considered.

I want people to design some custom images and I will put up a slideshow which will allow people to vote for their favorite. The winner will be used on a weekly basis on my recaps going forward with credit being given to the artist in every article.

Here is what the specifications would have to be in order to qualify. The image would have to be a minimum size of 1200x900 to work, but bigger than that is just as good.

The image would need to incorporate the phrase "The Doctor's Weekly Recap List" and contain plenty of images relating to WWE and various Doctor Who related items like The TARDIS, sonic screwdrivers, Daleks or anything else widely known as part of the Who-niverse.

For anyone who didn't get it from the rotating profile pics I use, I am a big Doctor Who fan. This is the primary reason I call myself The Doctor, in tribute to the show.

I am looking for one universal image to use for both Raw and SmackDown so excluding those words would be best so I can use it for both. Extra consideration will be given for putting the Bleacher Report logo in as well.

I am really looking forward to what you guys are able to come up with and just so people do not feel rushed, I am going to allow submissions for two weeks. June 4 will be when I post the slideshow for voting.

If you would like to submit an image please send an E-mail with the image attached as a JPEG to BR_Doctor@live.com along with your full name so the work can be properly credited. This e-mail was created just for this contest so please contact me on my profile page for anything else. So far I have not had many submissions so any will be considered.

It is also not lost on me that my introductions have been getting longer and longer recently. That will change in a week or two once I have everything settled for all the things that are going on.

I try and interject some fun into these lists, so I hope you have fun reading this week's list of the 124 things we learned, loved and hated from the show.

1. I guess we won't be seeing Chris Jericho on the show tonight.
2. I don't see why a huge deal is being made out of this flag kicking incident. HBK humped the  Canadian flag once and he didn't get punished.
3. It is a crime to desecrate a flag in Brazil so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the police were involved.
4. It will be interesting to see if WWE makes any mention of this on the air during Raw.
5. Anyone from Brazil who reads this, please comment and let us know how you felt about the incident.
6. The show opens with a video recapping how the Big Show vs John Cena match at No Way Out came about.
7. Hey! That rhymed!
8. Eve is out looking very...professional.
9. I can hear some people yelling Hoeski. I'm Glad that still happens.
10. Eve says she is going to deal with Sheamus for almost knocking over John Laurinaitis on Raw.
11. Alberto Del Rio is out to put a stop to this.
12. Del Rio sucks up to her so he can be named Sheamus' opponent for NWO.
13. I wonder if WWE intentionally made a PPV with the initials N.W.O.
14. Del Rio seems to have gotten through to her, but Orton comes out before she can fully answer.
15. Orton's pop is probably not a canned reaction.
16. Orton introduces himself to Eve for some reason.
17. He thinks the fans should help make the decision as to who faces Sheamus, and of course they choose Orton.
18. Kane comes out next.
19. Eve makes a triple threat between them to see who will be the number one contender.
20. I guess anyone who would have come out would have been included in the match.
21. Someone go grab William Regal and tell him to get out to the ring!
22. Awesome. Christian is out next.
23. We return from commercial to see Hunico in the ring as well.
24. I guess he is being sacrificed so Christian can have an easy win.
25. I wonder how much more convenient it is for Hunico to be able to wear his ring gear on his way to the show, unlike all the guys who wear trucks and tights.
26. Hunico hits a nice suicide dive on Christian to get the advantage.
27. Christian comes back with a flurry of offense and starts hitting all his signature moves.
28. Christian hits the Killswitch and then climbs the ropes for the Frog Splash.
29. I am so happy he is using a different finisher. I have always hated the Killswitch because it looks like it would be impossible to actually do to someone.
30. Cody Rhodes comes out after the match. I just recently got into the show Warehouse 13 and I finally saw his guest appearance on the show. He was pretty good.
31. Cody delivers a great promo about how he elevated the IC title back to what it once was.
32. He mentions Razor Ramon, Randy Savage and Shawn Michaels as his inspirations to make it great again.
33. Christian lays the title in the ring as if to draw a line in the sand and he invites Rhodes in but Rhodes just walks off as we go to commercial.
34. I hope this feud goes for a little while. They have the potential to have great matches together.
35. Bonus! The Usos are facing Titus O'Neil and Ahmed Johnson, I mean Titus O'Neil.
36. We see a video of the Usos mocking Young and O'Neil backstage.
37. Hahaha. The joke about Young's head looking like a microphone made me laugh.
38. These four men could be the future of the tag team division if WWE lets them do what they are good at.
39. I am starting to become fans of Young and O'Neil, but I still think they look a little green whenever I see them wrestle.
40. It looks like we have the return of NXTeal judging from those trunks.
41. I didn't make up that nickname but it works well when they wear those trunks.
42. O'Neil and Young are in control most of the early part of the match.
43. Jimmy gets the hot tag and he takes Young apart until O'Neil breaks up the pin.
44. Huge superkick from Jimmy but he doesn't capitalize fast enough and The Primetime Players take him out for the win.
45. A video to hype Ryback plays as we go to commercial.
46. WWE should put Ryback and Brodus Clay in a match so one of them can finally have a loss.
47. If Ryback could get Brodus up for that finisher and make it look good I would finally be impressed by him.
48. Two jobbers who look like Kaval-lite and Christopher Walken's creepy son from Wedding Crashers.
49. What the hell! Why is Ryback's eye half red?
50. There's the Goldberg chants. I wondered how long it would take before that started. Apparently it takes two seconds.
51. OK. Putting both those guys on his shoulder for that finisher looked pretty cool.
52. Another quick win for the Terminator Doppelganger.
53. Ricardo Rodriguez is going to wrestle Santino next and he is wearing his tuxedo.
54. I just had a flashback to the tuxedo match with Harvey Whippleman and Howard Finkel. (Shudders uncontrollably)
55. After the break both men make their entrances.
56. I loved Ricardo during the Royal Rumble and hopefully WWE uses him right.
57. Rodriguez runs the ropes and Santino watches him like a cat watching a tennis game. Remember that commercial?
58. Santino is toying with Ricardo until he loses his balance doing an airplane spin.
59. He just pulled a Hornswoggle on Ricky Ricardo and he comes up from behind him and hits the Cobra for the win.
60. That match actually made me laugh a little bit. Both men are good comedy characters.
61. Sheamus is out after the commercial to talk about what happened with JL on Monday.
62. He apologizes for JL being a massive arse.
63. Ha! Sheamus makes a joke about David Otunga and Eve being so far up there that they can tell what Johnny ate for breakfast.
64. Just don't picture it mentally and you'll be fine.
65. Speaking of repressing memories, Vickie is out to bring out Jack Swagger as the sacrificial lamb to face Sheamus.
66. With that haircut and his American image WWE would be stupid not to have Swagger do some kind of political gimmick while the elections are still big news. It worked to get JBL over so it can work for Swagger. Although JBL was already over because of the APA being so awesome.
67. Vickie could even be his Monica Lewinsky.
68. Sorry. Block that one too.
69. Sheamus is the aggressor early on.
70. Swagger is able to get the advantage by chop-blocking Sheamus in the leg while he is standing on the apron.
71. That was a pretty unique way to start punishing the ankle to setup for the Ankle Lock.
72. That is, if he is able to actually lock it on before Sheamus kicks his head off.
73. Call me crazy but I am excited for Men in Black 3. This commercial makes me remember how funny Will Smith can be when he tries. I still watch Fresh Prince from time to time. Carlton and Geoffrey kill me.
74. When we return we see Swagger working over Sheamus' ankle.
75. Sheamus hits a neckbreaker on Swagger to get some breathing room.
76. Sheamus misses the Brogue Kick and Swagger almost gets the win after a corner-splash.
77. Sheamus rolls out of the gutwrench powerbomb and hits the Brogue Kick for the win.
78. Good showing by Swagger.
79. Yes Yes Yes! Sorry, Daniel Bryan, but that was for Damien Sandow.
80. I still think WWE has wasted Yoshi Tatsu. Give him back his makeup and mask and then add some new entrance music that is not so poppy and he could be a real threat with the skill-set he has.
81. I love how he just talks during his entrance instead of having music.
82. What is that on Tatsu's tights below the Japanese flag?
83. "Do your job referee, get him off of me!" Damien Sandow.
84. Mike Knox Jr. gets the quick win over Tatsu. Seriously, if he keeps growing that beard he will resemble a fitter Mike Knox by the end of the year
85. That cartwheel from Sandow post-match was a little odd.
86. Big Show is out after the break and the lights in the arena have been dimmed, with just a spotlight on him.
87. I have a hard time believing Big Show when he says he couldn't eat after getting fired.
88. Show says he did not sell out after the crowd chants it.
89. This is not the heel turn I would have expected for Big Show. He isn't being some dominating monster, he is being an articulate sap who is trying to justify what he did.
90. I hope this goes somewhere beyond a match with Cena. Big Show needs a real World Title feud again.
91. Big Show seems to take solace in knocking John Cena out in one punch. He takes a moment to reflect with a smile on his face after talking about it.
92. He says he will do a repeat performance at No Way Out.
93. As Show goes to leave Kane's music and pyro hit and the two pass each other on the ramp with a quick glance to each other.
94. Daniel Bryan comes out of nowhere and he starts teeing off on Kane with a steel chair.
95. He is hitting Kane dozens of times. This is awesome.
96. The chair is pretty beat up when the refs finally push Bryan away from him.
97. The crowd chants Yes as Bryan leaves the ring.
98. What a great run-in. Bryan looked really aggressive.
99. A video hyping Sin Cara's return plays before we return.
100. I hope his next run is better than his first. He really needs to work out the kinks in his style and then he will be able to really get over.
101. A disheveled looking Ricardo Rodriguez brings out Alberto Del Rio, who looks to be back to using a car during his entrance. He didn't a few times and I thought WWE got rid of the gimmick.
102. Orton is out last and it looks like the crowd goes nuts for him.
103. Kane seems to be able to compete even after the insane number of chair shots he just took.
104. Orton is in control early on as he works over Kane after disposing of Del Rio.
105. Del Rio gets in some offense but both he and Orton get ejected from the ring.
106. Kane starts working over Orton as Del Rio is still down outside the ring.
107. Booker is really worried about his paperwork as Orton slams Kane into the announcer's table.
108. Orton is about to hit the rope-hung DDT on Kane when Del Rio jumps up and hits a rope-assisted enziguri on Orton. Nice spot.
109. After another commercial we see all three men exchanging control in a series of quick exchanges.
110. Orton hits a pair of powerslams on Del Rio and Kane.
111. Orton with a rope-hung DDT in the corner to Del Rio.
112. As Orton sets up for the RKO he gets grabbed out of the ring by Kane and thrown into the steel steps.
113. Kane climbs up the turnbuckle and misses, but hits a chokeslam instead.
114. Daniel Bryan is on the apron again with a chair and Kane chases him off.
115. Bryan comes out again and Kane is distracted getting back in the ring.
116. Orton hits Kane with an RKO but Del Rio takes Orton out with a running kick to the head.
117. Del Rio pretty much just punted Orton, which I thought was a banned move now.
118. Del Rio gets the win with a lot of help from Daniel Bryan to become the new number one contender for Sheamus' World Title.
119. As Del Rio celebrates on the ramp, Sheamus attacks him from behind and stands over him with the title to end the show.
120. Decent show, nothing to write home about.
121. I liked the triple threat the best as all three men looked to be performing at the top of their game.
122. No Divas match tonight, but that is always hit or miss anyways.
123. I would like to see Rhodes and Christian really have a good feud because they could outshine the World Title match at No Way Out given the talent of both men.
124. Damien Sandow is going to be a very interesting character once he gets into a real feud.
