Impact Wrestling: Please Do Not Give Sting the TNA World Title Again

David LevinJun 7, 2018

Not Sting!

Admittedly, I have been out of the TNA loop for a couple of weeks on vacation, but I see nothing much has changed it. And while I like the idea of the main event stars who have been working to make the program better like AJ Styles, Bobby Roode, Bully Ray and so on, I am concerned the company took a step back in its progression.

Not Sting!

Bobby Roode is now the longest-running TNA World Champion the company has had in its tenure, and is riding a nice wave of success because of the work being done to capitalize on old NWA ideas of calling wrestlers out, making the Television Title matter and producing long title runs like they used to.

But not Sting!

Roode beat AJ Styles (which, by the way, the angle with Styles and an affair with Dixie Carter does not work) with the mental help of Kazarian and Christopher Daniels to secure himself as the longest-reigning champion. But after the match, general manager Hulk Hogan named Sting as the person to challenge Roode for the title next week in a lumberjack match.

Love the concept. Love the idea of old school wrestling matches.

Hate the idea that it is Sting!

With a roster of Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy and Bully Ray, who I think should have gotten the title push last night, it would seem obvious there are other choices to make. Even Austin Aries would have been a great choice. He certainly deserves a push toward the top.

But not Sting!

While the Stinger is still a viable and popular wrestler, and able to draw at the gate and put on a great match, he does not deserve the match unless this is a one-time thing.

You can make the case that, in addition to the wrestlers I mentioned above, Mr. Anderson and RVD could give us another top-notch challenger who is deserving of some spotlight in the title picture.

But not Sting!

There have been some good things TNA has put together this year with the Open Fight Night, bringing back real vignettes and making the Knockouts and having sound tag teams weekly (although I would like to see the Eric Young/ODB thing go away). But this is not one of them.

Stick to the gameplan, creative. While TNA cannot compete with the WWE (this should not even be a discussion), there are still ways to create the niche the company wants and have success like it needs in wrestling, then bring forth new matches, get the top stars in the main event, keep touting Roode as a champion and find great challenges for the title.

Pick anyone on the roster you want, but keep the title away from Sting!
