Anaheim Angels: Dan Haren Strikes Out 14 in Shutout Against Seattle Mariners

Kenny DeJohnMay 24, 2012

Dan Haren was absolutely incredible in Thursday night's start against the Seattle Mariners, striking out a career-high 14 and walking none in a complete-game shutout.

He allowed just four hits—three singles and a double—and lowered his ERA to 3.76 on the season.

The 3-0 Angels victory improved Haren's record to 2-5 this season, as he had lost his last four decisions prior to the shutout.

The shutout is the sixth of Haren's career, and the complete game is his 16th.

Angels pitchers have been dominant over the last three games. C.J. Wilson, Jered Weaver and Haren have combined to allow just one run and eight hits over the past 25 innings. They've struck out one batter per inning over that stretch.

The three runs from the Angels lineup was obviously plenty for Haren.

The offense was led by Albert Pujols, who finally seems to be breaking out of his early-season slump.

He recorded three hits, one of which was his 450th career home run. He becomes the fourth-youngest player to reach 450 home runs in the history of the game.

All of a sudden, everything seems to be clicking for the Angels. That's a scary thought, as they are one of the best built teams in the game.

It was inevitable that they would get it going, it was always just a matter of when.

It seems as if "when" is now.
