Indy 500 Lineup: Chevrolet Will Dominate Historic Race
If you aren't driving a Chevrolet V-6 in the upcoming Indy 500, you aren't going to win. Chevy engines are going to leave competitors in the dust.
Sixteen cars will be running the Chevy V-6 direct injected twin turbo charged purpose built engine fueled by renewable E85. Those 16 cars include the top eight qualifiers and nine of the first 10—a remarkably impressive feat.
The only non-Chevy engine in the Top 10 was a Honda—a humbling position for the once king of Indy engines.
This is a great statement for Chevy. This "bowtie" brand is the first engine from a Chevy power plant to appear at the Indy 500 in seven years, and a Chevy team has not won this race since 2002.
They are back with a vengeance.
That winless streak is going to end. Not only is the engine the fastest out there, but they have a fantastic group of drivers attached to them. This includes the powerful Penske trio of Ryan Briscoe, Will Power and Helio Castroneves.
Chevy is not going to be denied.
While this Chevy dominance hasn't happened at Indy for some time, these results are not all that shocking.
There have been four races in this Indy season, and Chevy has powered the winning driver of all four. They have also been the force behind all five pole winners this season.
This is a dawn of a new era for Indy, and all other manufactures are chasing Chevy. Hopefully they are used to playing that chasing game because they won't be able to surpass Chevy in this race.
