WWE: 5 Possible Partners for Alex Shelley
Now that it appears Alex Shelley will make the WWE his next stop in his wrestling career, rumors can now start circulating over how the TNA tag team and X-Division superstar will be used by creative.
Hopefully that means the 29-year-old being involved in tag team wrestling, which seems to be reviving itself with the crowning of R-Truth and Kofi Kingston as champions and the hopeful creation of a cruiserweight division. All of this is according to a report by Nick Pagliano on wrestlingzone.com.
If this happens, Shelley could be a catalyst for the creation of more tag teams and the resurgence of the tag team belts being an important part of both the Raw and SmackDown brands and more tag team competition on a weekly basis on Monday and Friday nights.
Shelley and his current tag team partner, Chris Sabin, have been one of the best tag teams in TNA as the Motor City Machine Guns (and note to Sabin, if you at some point decide to join Shelley in the WWE, please bring Velvet Sky with you).
Here are some wrestlers currently in the WWE who could team with Shelley to form a great pairing.
The Miz
1 of 5He keeps sliding and sliding. Essentially he has gone from WWE Champion to a jobber and a bad one at that.
The Miz has had success as a tag team champion with John Morrison and could use tag team wrestling to help springboard his career again.
If he is losing matches to Brodus Clay and Santino Marella, that says something about how far he has fallen on the ladder of the WWE greatness.
Tyson Kidd
2 of 5I keep waiting to see what the WWE is going to do with him and I am baffled. Maybe he can tag with Shelley and form a decent combination.
Kidd is talented and would be great in a cruiserweight division, allowing him to be a more agile X-Division-like competitor.
But in a tag team (remember, the WWE released Harry Smith about a year ago), this would allow him to depend on another wrestler for his success.
I thought Kidd would be a superstar by now. He hasn't cracked the surface.
Christian
3 of 5The cagey veteran made a living on tag team wrestling with Edge and knows a thing or two about getting over in the division.
While Christian would be the "Edge" in this team, it would still be an opportunity for him to shine and possibly claim another title in his long career.
The combination may be very successful because Christian is more of a mat wrestler while Shelley would get to the air quite often.
Justin Gabriel
4 of 5This may be the best situation for him.
Gabriel is the one guy who I thought would get more of a push and hasn't due to numbers and injuries. Shelley is just as acrobatic and Gabriel would complement him in many ways.
This pair looks like a perfect match and one that would challenge for a tag team title.
Cody Rhodes
5 of 5Maybe.
Rhodes is now much better as a singles champion, but he has experience as a tag team champion with Bob Holly and then Ted DiBiase, Jr.
Rhodes still is completely opposite of anything Shelley is used to and it would be interesting to see if they make him a heel tag team competitor.
