NBA Rumors: New York Knicks Are Best Fit for Lamar Odom Going Forward
The New York Knicks are the best team for Lamar Odom to have success with for the remainder of his career.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Odom would be interested in signing with the Knicks as a free agent in the offseason if he's not traded by the Dallas Mavericks before that.
"If the Mavericks are forced to waive Odom, he would become a free agent. In that scenario, the Queens native would likely be looking at a significant pay cut from the $8.2 he was scheduled to make this season.
Would he be interested in coming to New York at a discounted rate?
"
A source with knowledge of Odom's thinking says yes. The source says the Knicks would be "on the top of his list" if Odom became a free agent.
"Lamar is big on being comfortable," the source said. "And New York is somewhere he can be comfortable."
Odom seemed disinterested in Dallas and didn't appear comfortable at all. It's hard to imagine Odom not being excited to possibly play in the Big Apple for a team like the Knicks. They play in a huge city, have passionate fans and a talented roster.
The Knicks roster would certainly improve if Odom was added to the mix since the team doesn't have enough talent in the front court.
Odom can defend well all over the court, which would certainly benefit a Knicks team that has to play better defense consistently.
The Knicks may lose players like Steve Novak this summer in free agency, so there could be a need for outside shooting and depth in the frontcourt in New York. If the Knicks want to become championship contenders, they need to sign players like Odom.
They have a strong starting lineup, but they need a complete bench if they are to seriously contend for an NBA championship against the likes of the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference.
