Eden Hazard: Buzz Surrounding Star Proves He'll Be a Distraction for Future Club

Sam R. QuinnJun 4, 2018

Former Lille start Eden Hazard has proven himself to be a great young talent since he began his professional career. He's also proven that he's going to be a distraction for whatever club he chooses to sign with.

Hazard has most recently been linked to Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, but the 21-year-old Belgian sensation is not going to be worth the hassle that he brings to his prospective club.

In a process that rivals "The Decision" fiasco brought about by LeBron James, Hazard has delayed his selection. Then delayed it again. It's been reported that he will not make a decision until after Belgium's friendly against England next week, but will the three aforementioned clubs begin to lose interest before then?

Probably not, but they should.

There is nothing worse for a professional team than a player who brings distraction to the club. Hazard has already made waves in saying that he will not accept a part-time role on the club he signs with. He's a professional athlete, and of course the hunger to get starters minutes and help the team in every capacity he can comes along with that, but it's not wise to start making demands before inking a deal. It starts the relationship off on a bad foot.

Not just the relationship with Hazard and management, but the relationship with Hazard and the players on the club. I would guess that the veteran players on those three possible clubs, especially those who play Hazard's position, are not too pleased with the stipulations that he has already set forth.

What happens if Hazard doesn't get to play the No. 10 role with the team he signs with? It wouldn't be a shock to see frequent temper-tantrums from the player who has been accustomed to a star role from the day he first stepped on the pitch.

Hazard's attitude problems have been well-documented. He's had issues with fans and has shown a cocky demeanor. Now that's not to say that plenty of other star football players couldn't use an attitude adjustment, but at only 21 years old, he should know his place (for lack of a better phrase).

Attitude adjustments can be made with the help of veteran players, but he might not receive that help now that he may have already alienated himself from his possible teammates by taking their clubs and fans on a roller coaster ride for quite some time now.

It's easy to forget how much that this man will actually be getting paid to play. It's been widely reported that he will receive somewhere in the vicinity of £30 million for his services. He could also garner £250,000 a week to play, second in the premier league to only Yaya Toure who is making £270,000.

For that staggering of a price, a club would want a consummate professional who goes about his business without complaints and sticks by his teammates always.

He's hardly shown a propensity to do so. One of the low points of Hazard's attitude situation occurred when he stormed off the sideline after being substituted in an international match against Turkey. He finished the game outside the stadium and met his father and agent at a burger bar while his teammates were still on the pitch.

Do you think Sir Alex Ferguson will stand for that? I don't think so either.
