Boxer Jermain Taylor Accused of Rape at Hotel

Former undisputed middleweight boxing champion Jermain Taylor has been accused of rape by a 27-year-old female, according to Arkansas news station KATV 7.

The attack is alleged to have taken place at an America's Best Value Hotel on May 18 in Maumelle, Ark. The accuser claimed that she injured her ankle after falling down the stairs during a verbal altercation with Taylor. She also said that she had met Taylor at the hotel in order to have sex with him in exchange for money.

After claiming that Taylor had raped her at an Arkansas hotel, the accuser has since recanted her accusation, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Taylor hadn't been arrested or charged with a crime, but he may still be facing charges such as soliciting a prostitute, according to the report.

It is also being reported that the woman didn't accuse Taylor of rape until her ankle injury was being examined at the hospital. The woman was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance as she was found to have 16 Lortab tablets.

Despite the accusations, the Maumelle Police Department isn't expecting any further criminal charges to be handed down in the case, according to the report.

Regarding the investigation of the events of May 18th involving Jermain Taylor, the Maumelle Police Department does not anticipate any additional criminal charges. This preliminary decision is based on the interviews of all involved parties and physical evidence collected during the investigation.

Taylor was considered one of the best up-and-coming boxers in the sport when he defeated Bernard Hopkins in 2005, but his career has essentially gone downhill since then. Consecutive losses to Kelly Pavlik as well as losing efforts against Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham have made the 33-year-old former champion a forgotten man.

Taylor has since bounced back with wins over Jessie Nicklow and Caleb Truax, but it's tough to imagine him ever reaching the level he once ascended to. After beating Truax in April, it isn't yet known when Taylor will step into the ring next.
