WWE: Why All Serious Tag Teams Should Have an Official Team Name

In the Dragon Ball franchise, heroes Goku and Vegeta fused (joined to form a single entity) in an attempt to defeat the evil villain, Majin Buu. After the two warriors fused, they called themselves Vegito. 

Unlike Goku and Vegeta, most of WWE’s current tag teams do not have an official, singular tag team name.

There’s Primo and Epico, Titus O’Neil and Darren Young, Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks, Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd, Hunico and Camacho, Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger, The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) and, the current tag team champions, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth. Out of the eight current WWE tag teams, only Jimmy and Jey Uso have a singular tag team name (The Usos).

What's the big deal?

A team is a group of two or more people who come together to achieve a common goal. A team is the opposite of an individual—something single or separate. Therefore, tag teams should not show any signs of being single or separate. Rather, tag teams should show signs of unity. One way to show unity is to have an official, singular tag team name.

Is it the Miami Heat or is it LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh? Wait, don't answer that.

Ultimately, history proves that the greatest tag teams had official tag team names. One only needs to look at a recent WWE.com article entitled “The 50 Greatest Tag Teams in WWE History,” where, you guessed it—the WWE listed what it believes to be the 50 greatest tag teams in WWE history.

Of the 50 teams, 43 have an official team name. 43/50. Some of those 43 teams include The Bushwackers, The Mega Powers, Demolition, Rock-N-Sock Connection, Too Cool, The Rockers, The British Bulldogs, The Hardy Boyz, The New Age Outlaws and The Hart Foundation.

Is it a coincidence that most of the greatest tag teams in history have singular, official team names rather than separate, individual names? Highly doubtful. "United we stand, divided we fall."
