WWE Over the Limit 2012 Results: Vince McMahon Needs CM Punk in Main Event Spot
CM Punk and the WWE championship are not getting the respect they need or deserve.
His match with Daniel Bryan at Over The Limit included, Punk has not been put in the main event spot on a pay-per-view since December's TLC show. That means it is going to be at least six months before a WWE title match closes an event. (Actually, it will be until at least July, because you know John Cena and Big Show are going to main event No Way Out.)
This is one of the biggest problems in the WWE today, and one that Vince McMahon should work hard to remedy in a hurry.

Cena is the biggest star in the WWE; no one is denying that. He draws more people in than anyone in the company today. However, if that's the case—and if McMahon is so hell bent on keeping him in the main event—put the championship on him.
Since that clearly isn't in the cards right now, Punk should be put in the last match spot. It might not sound like a big deal to fans who already like Punk and think he is having the best matches on pay-per-views every month anyway, but to the non-IWC crowd it makes a big difference.
Perception is everything in wrestling. Right now, Punk and the WWE championship feel secondary to anything going on with Cena. That is not the way to build a brand or an audience. In fact, Punk is in the same spot he was in before the Cena angle last year because he has been put in lesser spots.
Nothing that the WWE does should be more important than the championship. Even the world title needs to be put in better spots. However, since no one really likes that belt, we won't worry about it.
The WWE championship is the crown jewel of this company. It is supposed to be the single-biggest drawing card that the WWE has, even if it isn't around the waist of the biggest star. That being said, it has been so long since it has mattered that it needs a major overhaul.
Punk is the man that the WWE wants to have the title right now. He has done good work as champion, but is no bigger star today than when he first won the belt. That should never happen.
Vince McMahon has failed Punk, the championship and the audience that once held the title in such high regard.
