NBA Trade Rumors: Dwight Howard's Magic Act Must End with Brooklyn Nets

If Dwight Howard really wants out of Orlando, the Brooklyn Nets have to make an offer that the Magic can't refuse to land the All-Star center. 

According to a report from Chris Sheridan of SheridanHoops.com, Howard is going to do anything he can to get out of Orlando. There are a handful of teams expected to be in the mix, with the Nets right at the top of the list.

And although the Brooklyn Nets are still considered the frontrunner, “it is not going to be a one-horse race,” the source said, listing the Mavericks, Knicks and — to a lesser degree — the Clippers and Lakers as among the destinations that would appeal to Howard.

The Magic realize that Howard's antics aren't worth the headache, and will do whatever they can to get maximum value in return. 

What the Nets have to offer is greater than anything that any of the other teams can put together, both for short- and long-term building. As Sheridan's report also says, the Nets' potential package could end up being even more appealing if they get a top-three pick at the NBA draft lottery. 

There is incentive for the Nets to pursue Howard as hard as anyone. They are moving into a new arena in a new city and have to sell tickets, as well as get a marquee player to build their franchise and promotional packages around. 

Deron Williams may or may not re-sign with the Nets but, if they are able to acquire Howard, it could make Williams' decision a little easier. 

Howard wants to start his career anew in a place that will afford him more marketing opportunities than Orlando. The Magic have started the housecleaning by firing Stan Van Gundy and Otis Smith. It is time for both sides to do what is in their best interests. 

Given that Howard is reportedly desperate to get out of Orlando, he is taking control of his situation. The Magic realize that their best course of action is to get the best package possible for their franchise player. 

The Nets have the pieces in place right now to get a deal done, starting with Brook Lopez, and the motivation to get a deal done. It is time to get this long-talked-about move done for everyone to start a fresh, new chapter.
