Lakers Rumors: Why Nick Young Will Help Cure What Ails Aging Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are no longer a championship-caliber team and Nick Young's scoring abilities would take them one step closer to another NBA finals appearance.

ESPN's Chris Palmer reported via his Twitter account that the Lakers are already getting busy this offseason and are interested in Young.

The shooting guard spent the first half of the season with the Washington Wizards and was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers midseason.

Young's L.A. roots grow deep; he grew up in Southern California and attended USC. When he found out that he was headed back to his hometown, he described it as a "dream come true."

The native Angelino has felt at home at Staples center, so a move to the Lakers would be seamless and hassle-free.

Once he steps on the court, there will be some kinks to work out, but Young helps the Lakers in many areas where they are lacking.

If he were to put on purple and gold, Young would come off the bench, just as he has with the Clippers. The Lakers need scoring from their reserves, and they need it badly.

During the regular season, the Lakers finished dead-last in the NBA in bench scoring. While fans were waiting for the unit to step up in the playoffs, Los Angeles was eliminated by the Thunder Monday night as the bench scored just five points.

Young most certainly has flaws in his game, but the one thing he does very well is score.

No player that comes off the bench for the Lakers can consistently create his own shot. Young, on the other hand, is capable of exploding and going on streaks where he is almost unstoppable.
