Preakness Results 2012: Predictions on How Top Finishers Will Fare at Belmont

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

The 2012 Preakness Stakes featured a small field of 11 horses and all eyes were on Bodemeister* and I’ll Have Another. They did not disappoint and I’ll Have Another incredibly came from behind once again (he did this the first time at the Kentucky Derby) to surpass the favorite and win a Triple Crown Race.

Now, some of the horses that did not win at Pimlico but had respectable finishes have a chance to redeem themselves and steal the Triple Crown from I’ll Have Another.

Let’s take a look at which Preakness competitors have the best shot to pull an upset at Belmont Park.

I'll Have Another - 1st at Preakness, 5th at Belmont (Prediction)

I'll Have another is Bodemeister's worst enemy and foiled his Triple Crown win not once, but twice. With Bodemeister out of the race on June 9, it's looking more and more like another horse will burst out of the gates at Belmont.

They won't be as willing as the two-time runner-up to relinquish that lead and I'll Have Another's dreams will be crushed.

Dullahan - Did Not Compete at Preakness, 3rd at Belmont (Prediction)

Dullahan decided to forego the Preakness and instead concentrate on the third leg of the Triple Crown after finishing in third during the Run for the Roses.

He’s been working hard to improve his times and has been cruising through five-furlong breezes at 1:00 1/5, according to Jack Shinar of ESPN.

Dullahan is built for distance and this is the kind of track he can win on.

Creative Cause - 3rd at Preakness, 2nd at Belmont (Prediction)

This colt has been sneaky fast during the past two Triple Crown events. He finished fifth in the 20-horse field at Churchill Downs and showed at Pimlico after being neck-and-neck with Bodemeister for much of the race.

If he continues to pick up speed and can last for the 1.5 mile length at Belmont, there is a great chance that Creative Cause gets over the hump and actually wins the event.

Union Rags - Did Not Compete at Preakness, 1st at Belmont (Prediction)

Rags is another Kentucky Derby favorite that disappointed and subsequently opted out of the Preakness.

He’s been working on getting out of the gate faster and will immediately vault up front and try to hold for the duration of the Belmont Stakes.

There is no doubting Union Rags will go off with great odds to win on June 9 and should be the No. 1 threat to I’ll Have Another’s glory.
