Oklahoma Football Recruiting: A Quick Look at Quarterback Cody Thomas
Jason White and Sam Bradford have both won Heisman Trophies for Oklahoma at the quarterback position. Landry Jones is in the hunt this year, so long as the Sooners can put together a gang of wins and his wide receivers are up to the task.
With Blake Bell—the Belldozer—in the fold, the Sooners have one quarterback of the future who has some dynamic ability. However, Bob Stoops and his staff are not done adding some depth and talent to the quarterback position.
Thomas is a great looking athlete. The kid is mobile enough to get himself out of trouble behind the line of scrimmage, and he's well-trained in keeping his eyes down the field as he evades the rush. The rising senior also has a quick release, gets through his progressions quickly and has the ability to put the ball on the money.
One interesting note that must be made on Thomas, he's a heck of a baseball player as well.
Recruits like Thomas become quite interesting because Oklahoma is not just fighting off recruit poaches from other schools, they also have to contend with the cold, hard cash of Major League Baseball in the summer of 2013. Sometimes the colleges win and sometimes the players take the money and run.
What happens with Thomas the summer before he is set to start fall camp in Norman will be something to watch.
Myself and the guys at Full Ride had the chance to talk a little Cody Thomas.
Enjoy!
