Arkansas Football: Verbal from Highly Touted QB Boosts Razorbacks' 2013 Class

Barrett SalleeJun 6, 2018

Last week, Alabama got its quarterback of the future when Cooper Bateman committed to play football for the Crimson Tide in 2013. Auburn followed suit last weekend when Jeremy Johnson pledged to play football on the Plains.

Arkansas continued the trend of SEC quarterback commits on Monday, when Austin Allen committed to play for the Hogs, per 247Sports.com.

Allen is a 6'2", 205-pound pro-style quarterback from Fayetteville, Ark. He's rated by 247Sports.com as the nation's No. 15 pro-style quarterback and the No. 3 prospect in the state of Arkansas.

He has a big arm, and assuming Arkansas doesn't change systems with a new head coach following this season, he is a perfect fit for the Razorback offense.

With current quarterback Tyler Wilson gone after this season, there is playing time to be had at Arkansas, and Allen is sure to be in that mix when he arrives on campus next year.

Allen was one of a trio of Fayetteville High School players to commit to the Hogs on Monday, according to ArkansasSports360.com. He will be joined by linebacker Brooks Ellis and safety Alex Brignoni in 2013.

The commitment of the three players gives Arkansas five commitments in the Class of 2013. All of those commitments have come after John L. Smith was named head coach for the 2012 season. The Arkansas staff has already stated that it's recruiting as if it will be there long-term (via ArkansasSports360.com), and Monday's rush of commitments is certainly more proof of that.
