WWE Over the Limit 2012 Results: 5 Mistakes That Spoiled Last Night's PPV

Daniel MasseyJun 6, 2018

WWE Over the Limit 2012 surpassed many expectations with many matches making the show a true spectacle—CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan, the tag-team championship match and even the Divas match impressing the audience in attendance and those watching at home.

With a couple of squash matches and an Intercontinental title match shoved in between the major bouts on the card, this only helped in the WWE’s campaign to make every PPV as good as it used to be.

Despite this PPV being a hundred times better than I ever thought it would be, there are five major parts that spoiled the show and stopped it from being absolutely remarkable.

Punishing The Miz

1 of 5

Miz doing the "Thriller" dance was not how I envisioned his encounter with Brodus Clay starting off.

Then "The Funkasaurus" interrupted him, further adding to the embarrassment factor.

Having The Miz doing the immediately recognisable "Thriller" dance by Michael Jackson and not even referencing it on commentary was a huge mistake and the segment fell completely flat.

In the days of the Internet dirt sheets, it is obvious that The Miz is being punished on television, suffering a huge drop since being WWE Champion.

I just don’t understand why he is still being punished for a mistake that happened months ago.

I like The Miz, and I hope he can get his career back on track.

Having the Pre-Show Overrun

2 of 5

OK, so here’s the situation. You fork out 15 quid for a PPV and when it comes on, they’re midway through a 20-man battle royal.

Granted, they advertised a pre-show—Kane vs. Zack Ryder—but the battle royal was announced about two hours before the show.

They should have either added it onto the proper show, or had a longer pre-show.

Showing the introduction video to Over the Limit when they were 20 minutes into the allocated time slot looked unprofessional and confusing.

Introducing the show again, even though everyone had been watching it, looked unprofessional and confusing.

You get the picture.

Don’t let it happen again, WWE...

Having Christian Return on the Pre-Show

3 of 5

Christian’s return was a big deal, was it not?

Obviously not, otherwise WWE wouldn’t have wasted it on a minor PPV pre-show.

He clearly turned into a face with the commentary team making sure to shove that fact down our throat.

Christian was a World Heavyweight Champion last year and now he is the Intercontinental Champion. It’s not the fact that he is the Intercontinental Champion that annoys me—it’s a really good achievement, especially when he had to beat Cody Rhodes to gain it.

It is the fact that everyone has forgotten about “one more match” and Christian's quest to be a world champion.

The man had some amazing matches last year and I think he could have some brilliant matches of world championship quality this year, as well.

Keeping him out of the main event is probably not the best idea in this respect, but it is a good idea for building a solid midcard. It’s simply swings and roundabouts.

Making Johnny Look Ridiculous

4 of 5

John Laurinaitis can wrestle. Watch the video if you don’t believe me.

He has been retired for over 10 years, but when I heard that he was in training for his match with Cena I thought we would see Laurinaitis surprise everyone and wrestle competently against Cena. But what did we see instead?

The old classic—stupid attire, bad spots, fleeing from the arena and a tiny bit of offence from Laurinaitis.

This almost made Mr. McMahon vs. Bret Hart look good.

Making Johnny look ridiculous has now ruined his corporate image.

Mr. McMahon wrestled in his days, but he was made to look good most times.

It was the worst worked match of the year.

Its only redeeming quality was the commentary, which actually was hilarious for once.

Putting John Laurinaitis vs. John Cena at the End of the Show

How did WWE ever think that John Laurinaitis and John Cena could follow that impeccable WWE title match?

I despair.
