Orlando Magic Part Ways with Coach Stan Van Gundy and GM Otis Smith

The Orlando Magic have finally made the long-anticipated move to fire head coach Stan Van Gundy and part ways with general manager Otis Smith.

According to an NBA.com press release, Magic CEO Alex Martins announced today that the two men were no longer with the organization.

The front office heaped praise on them while giving the official reason as to why they were cut loose.

"They both brought die-hard dedication and an unmatched work ethic on a daily basis,” said Martins. “Their success is well documented, as the Orlando Magic has had the fourth best record in the NBA over the last five years, and entering the playoffs this year the third most playoff wins over that period of time."

"The disappointment of getting eliminated in the first round of the playoffs these past two seasons played a primary role in our decision, as we feel our momentum towards winning a championship has paused," continued Martins. "We wish Otis and Stan all the best and we look forward to taking the next step towards winning that championship."

These moves will appeal to Dwight Howard, who was largely unhappy with the direction the franchise was heading.

Van Gundy publicly revealed that the superstar wanted him sacked right before the postseason began.

The center also clamored that Smith was unable to provide him with the necessary talent to advance deep in the playoffs. 

It is currently unknown which candidates the team will be interviewing and considering for the open positions.
